  • head speed with plastic grips?

I’ve been running my 600n with a head speed of 2100 r.p.m. with plastic blade grips.
I don’t really want to fit metal ones as I think my combination of plastic grips and K&B yellow dampers flies nicely.

Is 2100 rpm too much for plastic grips? (no problems for me so far).
BobJ told me he had not bothered with metal grips on his 600n...

Early on there was a change in plastic blade grip design to make them stronger. I know my 600npro has the newer grip design and can’t spot any difference between the grips on that and the ones on my recently bought second hand 600n sport. Was there a visible change in the blade grip design?

I run plastic main blade grips on my Raptor Titan at 2000rpm and have done for some time with no problems at all. The bolt holes do tend to wear over time, but they are cheap to replace compared to metal grips.

I can't see a problem at that speed,I would say that when the blade grips were designed they would have built in a massive safety margin. The only possible cause for concern would be the age of the grips as most plastics degrade and become more brittle over time.

Think my IDL2 head speed it about 1850 on my Rappy 50 with plastic head. I am sure years back people said the limit with the plastic head was around 1900 - 2000.

When I flew R50's I ran 2000-2100, but I always used Quick UK heads. . . . . as I never really trusted the Raptor head after I had a major problem with "woofing" on the V1, stuck with the Quick UK heads when I moved to V2's.
