  • Is my main shaft bent!

When you look from the top at the main shaft looks as if its resonating i.e shaft bent but I've not crashed, blades are balanced tracking spot on & no probs flying, heli rocks slightly when starting up but that i think is blades leveling out.
Any of you 600's got that or should I change main shaft.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

Whip the main shaft out, then roll it on a glass table.

If your main shaft is bent, you would have a large amount of vibration, might just be the head button, not stiing level, or not centred, both of my rex's look like that, but if you worried, like sacko says, whip it out and check it by rolling it along a sheet of glass.
-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

      And a DX8 too

Whilst you have it out ...check for notchey bearings that can also cause wobbles....

Totally agree. My Raptor mainshaft was a cause for concern but I just couldn't see the bend or confirm the wobble. Took the shaft out and rolled it on a flat surface - the bend was tiny but noticeable. The heli was back together again and int he air within 10 minutes.

It's an easy and cheap fix - just do it.

As I cannot trust my eyes even on a glass table, I just put fresh shafts in when I have it stripped down. It's worth the few quid for peace of mind.

Fair enough on a trex 500 but when you get into the bigger stuff some have £40.00 main shafts.

A very reasonable point! I think I'll stick to the smaller stuff.

I normally just change mine too. The Align 450 shafts are only £7.50 for 3!

A Raptor main shaft is less than a tenner.

Take the blades off and see if it still vibrates then.

If it does then you need to check the shaft.

If it dosent then check the blades.

My wooden blades went out of whack after hard flying. If your running carbons then they should be ok.

roll it on a mirror or slap the main shaft in the chuck of your drill and spin it to check for any bend - had a couple of new ones bent out the packet before - not good.

With every thing switched on move the swash as high up the main shaft as you can. Now slowly rotate the blades. lf swash rocks the shaft is bent. Main shafts that are slightly bent can usually be easily straightened.

I built heli from new last week & checked main shaft by rolling it at the time but as mentioned I have not crashed it but I think I will double check it.

Thats just it it dosn't vibrate the top resonates giving you the impression that the shafts bent.
