T-Rex 600 NSP?

Hi there,

I am looking to graduate into 3D flight and feel that the best step forward from my Raptor 30 V2 is the Align 600 Nitro, however, I am not sure which one to go for?!

Because I am sure there will be plenty of accidents ahead, do I go for the regular 600, the pro or the super pro?

I like the idea of buying the NSP as it is the cheapest way of buying all the upgraded parts, but perhaps it will be the fastest way of breaking them all as well!!

Then I thought, how about buying the NSP, but at the same time picking up some cheaper parts like the standard boom, etc. and building it with these instead, saving the upgrade bits for when I am better?

I would really appreciate anyone's thoughts. After teaching myself to fly from a sim, I have only just joined a club (SRFC) after a year and bit flying by myself (very boring!), and so when it comes to my flying I have never really been pushed and as a result, have never crashed. Is crashing something that happens at any stage in one's flying career? The reason I ask is just to work out whether I'll still be crashing once I have upgraded the heli completely.

Anyway, I feel I have probably prattled on long enough! If anyone is a member of SRFC then I would especially grateful to hear from them as I am very keen to find someone to fly with!

You will be very lucky to go through your whole learning career without having a ding or 2.
Going for the nsp and then buying some cheeper parts is not such a silly idea.
Blades are the main cost in a crash so just buy cheeper ones to start with and then get better one as you improve.
A vision 50 is also a concideration and there are others like the beam and outrage nitro due soon

I will look into those other options. I just thought that perhaps Align were the best for spare availability and plenty of people have them, so there's always plenty of help on hand for when things get confusing!

I expect the others will be close on prices of spares, they will have to be

Do the sums and get shop quotes.
You might find a bundle of the NSP bits with a pro works out cheaper, or not. My 600n is a pro without the full alloy head of the NSP, but it will take anything you throw at it.
For blades look at the sportline silvers maybe or the stiffer GLX 3D v1/v2 from captaincrash.co.uk at about £40.
...and buy a crashproof plastic 600n sport canopy.
Stock up on tail drive gears and consider fitting the belt drive parts after you bend the first torque tube. Until you are dong aerobatic autos the difference in performance between belt and torque tube is not woryh worrying about.

The elyQ is like the raptor in construction so you have to split the plastic frames to replace parts which can be a pain.

consider a used airframe for learning 3D as then it might not feel quite so like a pile of money that you are risking drilling into the ground - and progress might be less stressful

As you learned to fly without tipping the heli over and doing minor damage, then brace yourself as you will eventually smack it in very hard and do major damage!

...of course you can do all but the power hungry moves on the rappy.30 so its worth trying to fly upside down, backwards etc with that.

Great, thank you for all this. I am going to go and get some quotes etc. I think it will definitely be a T-Rex 600, just a question of deciding which one exactly.

Is there a difference between the belt drive and the torque tube?

Now that I am thinking about this more, I don't want to be the next Alan Szabo Jnr. so perhaps the NSP is a waste of money seeing as I won't be thrashing the heli all over the place. Maybe money would be better spent on a Pro and spares?

Watching this thread with interest as this is my next heli. I've been looking at the Pro too.

I found a few sites that were still listing the Pro Combo (kit+engine+muffler+regulator+autoglow+lipo+govern or) for about £450. Alas most have no stock.

Do have to agree with mike here, The knight 3d is the best 50 size heli that i have ever owned for flying behavior, the only reason i sold and the same reason i have not recomended is due to the current spares issues.
If the spares were easily avaliable then i would recomend adding this to the list

I like em that much am selling my Titan to get another one ... TBH look like Westons got the issue of spares sorted now as well ....Time will only tell .....

It's precisely for the reason you have stated that I'm gonna stick with Align until they give me personally a good reason to move away.

Martin, i am affraid that compass have shot themself in the foot on this one, i sold mine to a bloke that wanted my airframe as a backup if he binned his, what does that say.
With all the new 50's on there way though the knight is getting old now, still though is does fly so well

Yup .. and they dont do cheesium screws like some mfrs lmao ... TBH I think some where put off when about the spares issues .. but EvoRC still has spares for them and Weston have now got the spares in stock as well .. I think I will stick with the knight as cost for cost in a crash align are not that much cheaper than a knight n e way.. Plus every Tom,Dick and Harry owns one hahah .......

Thank you all for the advice, I have ended up taking a bit of a detour! Have decided to go for an ElyQ Vision 50. This is based on the fact that it is great value for money, and as this heli is going to be my 3D learner, it is perhaps more sensible to go for a slighter cheaper model, so that when I inevitably slam it into the floor, I won't have to sell body parts.
