  • Hyper 50 cutting out

    Hi guys

I'm posting this after exhausting every possibility so I'm hoping one of you comes up with something I've missed!

I just fitted a new Hyper 50 to my 600 with MP5 SB pipe. Also fitted an Align governor.

In the hover in IU2 its fine. Vertical climbs are good too. The problem is when I try to pull it up into a tic toc the engine just dies. It really bogs down and then recovers when I unload the head. (Its not collective mgt btw as it cant even pull a tic let alone a toc!)

I have checked that the governor is working and sensing the magnets (its is and they are).

-checked the fuel filter for blockages.

-Checked the pipe for loose baffles (its not rattling)

-Checked the fuel magnet which is fine.

Any ideas guys? I'm pretty stumped!
    Pete

Try it without the gov before you do anything else is what I'd do

Just eliminates one thing in the loop

It may make no difference but it's certainly the 1st thing I would try

I'll try that. It would have meant just flicking a switch! Glad you lot are here to remind me of the obvious!

Have you set the end points on your gove, maybe it is taking it too low in the rev range or the gear ratio is set wrong?

Yup, high and low points set. The align gov doesn't have the facility to state the gear ratio (no LCD display) so thats not an issue.

I'll check it over tonight and hopefully try it with the gov switched off in the week.

It was running fine on the first tank (so good that I ran it out of fuel causing a forced auto). On refuelling it started playing up.

No Ade. Its a little rich after running in but pretty much bang on the money. Just falls on its face when I stand it on its tail. Really odd as it was singing before the forced auto.

                    Maybe the key here Pete.

You sure with running it out of fuel it hasnt sucked some dirt in swallowing the last dreggs.

Carb removed and blown out with a high pressure air gun.

Only takes a spec of dirt to cause this upset.

I did think that Tim but I run a fuel filter between the tank and carb so I dont think thats the cause. I guess I will know more by trying it with the gov disabled.

                        Ok, time to fess up.

Just rechecked the fuel magnet as what Tim said seemed to point in the right direction for two stroke problems. Guess what, the fuel magnet has broken up in the time its taken me to eat dinner. Must have been on its way out all along but looked fine at the field.

Cheers guys. Its good having you lot looking over my shoulder!!!

Get rid of it Pete and just use a header tank.
                          Glad you found it though.

running out of fuel could of damaged the glow plug and running rich could be putting it out when the gov increases the throttle to chuck more fuel in.
To try without the govenner pete, plug the throttle servo directly into the rx mate.
What throttle servo are you running, have had the ocational issue with some are reversed signals, i.e futaba are oposite to hitec in some cases, redo the gov set up as per the guide.
Bogging down does seem a running rich issue though

Cheers James. Found the issue a minute ago. See above.
