Not sure if there is a helical version, certainly would help with the loads - maybe a slightly thicker gear and helical combined could be part of the answer. Though I think you would still need a lower bearing to ensure the gear didn't have any movement at all. The manufacturing costs of helical against norm is higher which would have an impact on spare cost also.Cheers

Another main gear gone today. Auto'd down without drama but its still pretty annoying.
Looks like the expense and hassle of fitting the CNC block was, infact, a total waste of time!!Last edited by t-rex pedro; 17-03-2009, 05:54 PM.

Sorry to hear that Pete.Originally posted by t-rex pedro View PostAnother main gear gone today. Auto'd down without drama but its still pretty annoying.

You do give it some hell though!
I reckon your gonna have to do the gear mesh and third bearing block mod to sort this out properly.

Same as Chris here Pete, Not had any trouble at all with gears or infact anything regarding reliability on my 700.
I did fit the CNC Block but only as a matter of precaution.
Glad you got it down in one piece though mate.
Paying for a new main gear is peanuts. Repairs to a crash is unthinkable.

Just a thought but isn't it a good idea to have a fairly inexpensive weak link in the drive train. If the gear was made of unobtainium there would be a risk of clutch breakage or worse so I'm quite happy to replace a £4.50 gear now and again. Having said that so far I've not stripped a gear in 6 months and thats with both a top 3d'er hammering it and me a ham fisted learner torturing it.
Before everyone gets on my case I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just asking the question!

I would agree that there should be a weak link and maybe the main gear is the best candidate. However, It shouldn't strip through normal use!
If it went in a crash then fair enough but in normal flight you would expect to be able to take your heli up and back down in one piece wouldn't you?
My othere helis don't have their weak links failing every time I fly them!

In principal it sounds okay, but its abit like having the plastic gears in some servo's, however these will generally fail in a crash not cause it. However, it would appear to be a flaw in the design that isn't being rectified. If it was your traditional white goods you'd be asking the retailer to replace with a new, supply an alternative or money back.
Its about merchantability. You didn't buy it with a sticker on saying "Main Gear can fail at anytime".Last edited by Stuart; 17-03-2009, 08:17 PM.Cheers
