  • Trex 600 setup Help

    Morning,

I am still fighting the setup of my NSP mainly the engine and gyro and I think they are all related to the mixture in a steady hover it is like the heli has hiccups or the engine is miss firing making the tail unsteady I have the gyro (GY401) gain set to A35 on my T7C which seems very low to me.

I can hold my finger in the back plate of the engine for 5 secs and if I pinch the fuel pipe the engine picks up and dies in about 4 secs so the mixture is not far off. The exhaust gasket broke up yesterday seems a little fast as I can’t have put more than a US Gallon through the heli?

What I would really like is some very kind fellow that is local to Farnham to spare some of their time helping me get the set up right?

    Thanks in advance

I'd happily help if you were willing to travel down this way. A bit far I know but it's an option

From the symptoms you are giving, i had much the same on my NSP and it turned out to be the gov sensor. After replacing it, all ran smooth again.

As for the pipe gasket... I dont even bother with one anymore! Mine broke up pretty quick, and when i mentioned it to a fellow flyer, they said just tighten the pipe up on to the manifold and it will be fine!!

Not sure what caused the sensor to packup, but worth checking. Only thing is that its a pain in the butt to change unless you have quadruple jointed slim fingers!!

That is a good possibility and I have been flying with the governor I did find it got better a worse when I adjusted the governor endpoints seemed best at 64 not sure what head speed that equals...

I will have to try it with a normal throttle curve...

Ok, firstly you should be right in the ball park with your gyro gain figure.

Secondly, dont use end points to set the gov, use the GOV screen. I will have a look later at some % settings I have at home which will sort you out there.

Lastly, I reckon your running the motor a bit lean. 5 seconds on the backplate is too hot therefore lean IMO which can manifest in problems with the gyro. On the Hyper you want to start at 1.25 turns out on the main and go in from there but never anything less than one complete turn out.

I'm familiar with all your gear and live about an hour away. If you need any help maybe we could link up and do a bit of flying at the same time?

              Pete,

I dont think it is the gyro as when I put the gain up it wags and down it wanders so I think the problem is only small and mixture related. I would agree that ritcher sound right I leaned it out a bit and it got worse I am running 20% nitro and I think the screw is between 1.25 and 1 turn out.

Just a thought I am still running on a steam powered 35mhz and non digial servos except for the tail of cause.

I have the ball on the tail servo 12.5 mm out.

I didn't know the F7C had a gov menu I have the gov on channel 7 and I have set switch A set to channel 7 and I use the endpoint to adjust it...

For what its worth, here are my settings for the 600NSP/RCE-G600 Gov and F7C -

Gov is set to the same switch as IU (SW-E), with the gov off in Normal, 80% in IU1/2. 80% gives me a head speed of approx 1900rpm. Mix is set to ON, Dir is +Limit. Ch 7 end points are at 100%, with no sub trim. No reverse on Ch7.

As for the 401 gyro, mine is set to 64% and is rock solid.

                  Hope this helps.
                  Shaun.

                    Shaun,

Thanks I thought there must be a way of setting the gov with idle 1 and 2.

If I set my gain to anything above 45% the tail wags a fair bit..

With regards to setting up the Gov on Normal, Idle 1 and 2 have a look at this post:

                      http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/f30/al...tml#post214006

Alternatively, i use this method which i find a little easier to program and understand:

                      1. Install the governor per the manual. I'm using a DX7/AR7000 and the yellow sign wire is connected to AUX.

                      2. Set ATV for AUX2 to +100%/-100%

                      3. Set throttle curve to linear - 0-INH-50-INH-100

                      4. With the throttle stick on its lowest position, turn ON the radio.

                      5. Turn ON receiver and wait for the governor light to turn Green. When it's green, press the SET button on the governor for about 3 seconds until the GOV light starts to blink. Release the SET button then move the throttle stick to its highest position. The GOV light will turn OFF for a second then turn solid GREEN.

At this point, calibration is done. Verify that GOV is sensing the magnet by manually rotating the starter shaft with a 6MM allen wrence or just use your starter shaft. The lights on the GOV should turn OFF when one of the 2 magnets is directly under the sensor. (NOTE: only one of the two magnets should make the GOV light OFF. If you have both of the magnets turn OFF the GOV light, the magnets are installed incorrectly.)

                      PROGRAMMING THE DX7
                      1. Go to the master menu. (Press down+select and power ON)

                      2. Scroll to Input Selct menu and set AUX2 to INH

                      3. Turn OFF and the turn ON the radio again.

                      4. Go to the programming menu. (Press down+select)

                      5. Scroll to PROG.MIX1 menu. We are going to setup here the desired headspeed for Normal mode. Set it to make it look like this:

AUX2> AUX2 ON -- if this says OFF, your flight mode switch is not in normal
                      RATE: +80% --- for 1882 rpm headspeed
                      0%

                      SW: F-NR
                      OFFSET: 0

You set your RATE % based on the headspeed you want for normal mode. Refer to the table chart that came with the GOV.

                      6. Scoll to PROG.MIX2 menu. We are going to setup here the desired headspeed for IDLE1 mode. Set it to make it look like this:

AUX2>AUX2 ON -- if this says OFF, your flight mode switch is not in IDLE1
                      Rate +90% -- for 2024 rpm headspeed
                      0%
                      SW:F-S12
                      OFFSET: 0

Again, you set your RATE% based on the headspeed you want for IDLE1.

                      7. Scroll to PROG.MIX3 menu. We are going to setup here the desired headspeed for IDLE2 mode. Set it to make it look like this:

AUX2>AUX2 ON -- if this says OFF, your flight mode switch is not in IDLE2
                      RATE: +10% -- NOT 100% for 2171 rpm headspeed
                      0%
                      SW:F-S2
                      OFFSET: 0

NOTE: IDLE2 uses the base number from IDLE1 and add it's own value to it. So 90% (from IDLE1) + 10% = 100%

                      8. Exit programming menu and verify that when you flick the AUX2 switch on your radio, you can turn ON (green) or turn OFF (red) the governor. Take note which way your switch turns the GOV ON/OFF. If necessary, you can reverse AUX2 from the reversing sw. on the radio.

I cant take credit for the setup process, i found it on another site sometime back and saved it for future ref.

Nicolas, I didn't realise were on 35meg. Only the 2.4 Futabas have the gov menu so you will have to use end points.

Shaun.e's suggested settings, although spot on, are for use with the 2.4 sets with the governor menu.

Also, on any Futaba gyro with a Futaba Tx I have never gone above 40% gain in AVCS mode. (401, 611 using 9C, 7C and 12FG Tx).

The link and instructions i posted are for a DX7, so doubt they will suffice for your Futaba set. However, the title of your post will be something that others might search through and be able to use the into for a DX7 setup.
