mine is also 100% stock, and i have not had any issues at all, no stripped gears, no clutch probs.
But you have to put it in perspective, you can spend 800 quid on a aurora and still have issues, stripped gears, soft dampers causing boom strikes, tail gears failing and what would to cost to fix?
All helis have issues, cant think of one that i know about that has not had any since being launched to the marketJames

If you look at the pic in the first post, you can quite clearly see from the wear on the gear that the mesh was lose
approx only half the tooth was being contacted by the pinion tooth, mine was like this too and i did a couple of mods to tighten it up, before it let go.
This is why the electric market has't passed the nitro one yet initial start up cost, i would love a 550 either a Mikado or Outrage etc but i would need a whole new set of packs :/
AND THATS GONA HURT LARGE
i have 6 packs for my 500 = to buy atm thats about £780 quid OUCH !!!Last edited by Arky; 07-02-2009, 10:20 AM.

I know Align has a -1 replacement main gear available too which is slightly larger diameter with a different profile on the teeth, problem with this is that there have been binding problems with it. It's being sold as a cold weather gear, the original gear is for warm (?) weather.
To be honest after around 10 gallons through my 700 the gears are still fine, if I had a problem I'd be tempted to go for the Microheli gear as this does seem to be much better manufactured (and more expensive!)
I'm with busterboy, only 'upgrade' on mine is a shiny Fusono canopy

I watched Duncan strip a few at the 3D champs and it certainly wasn't cold!Originally posted by raptorheli2 View Posti'm afraid guys it's only a matter of time before the gears let go if your flying hard enough to do it. there are 7 trex 700's in my club and 5 of them have stripped a gear (not all in winter either). the other 2 have not flown and have about 1/2 gallon though them respectively.

Thinking i might grab the upgraded clutch block and microheli gear but because they arnt available i will chuck on of the new Align ones on just so i can get flying it again. They are suppossed to be a tiny bit bigger. See what happens there only 11 quid or something so might get me over.
Cheers

Not sure if it's been said but it probably has as I'm not that up to date as I don't own a 700
To me it looks like the main gear is a very fine pitch to be transmitting the sort of power these birds put out. I would have thought gearing more like the Knight's would be far more robust. i've not looked closely so i'm only going by the pictures I see
