  • Tail drive gear

Heli was making a funny noise today and tail was wagging a bit and on the advice of another club member checked it over when I got home and found the tail gear (small white ahead of the tail boom) had stripped a couple of teeth.
This will be the first part I've had to replace on this heli, 600 Nitro Sport, are these a common failing and if so do they do an alloy gear to replace the plastic one with?

yes mate these things strip easily with a slight bump of the tail so if your learning then best bet is convert back to belt, cheaper in the long run then when your more confident put the t/t back on,,

quite a few are flown at our club and although there are no real hot shot 3D pilots ive not seen and gears just strip. could you have put the tail down at some point? which would do it.

i'm not aware of any alloy upgrades. it may have been if its not been knocked a manufacturing fault in which case a change should sort the problem, good luck as the bearings are a real pain to get off

Realy common,so common align sell 3 sets in a bag and it only costs the price of 2.Metal gears are not available to my knowledge but even if they were I would advise against them,it would just move the point of failure further along to the tail.Having the tail blades too tight can increase the risk of gear damage even with even a slight impact.

Thanks for pointing out the error of my way's guy's, guilty on both counts, overtightened tail blades which did for them when I bumped the tail learning to land.
I replaced the blades but didn't think to check the gears at that time and then I was advised that they were too tight, you learn something new every day.
