  • T-rex 700 Engine advice

Just bought my first nitro heli engine and have a couple of questions for the more Nitro savy guys.

    1. I plan on running on 30% Fuel, now do I need to shim the head and if so by how much? Align 91HP (Blue heatsink) engine.

    2. What hatori pipe should I be using on this or are there any other alternatives?

if it was an OS i'd say put all the shims in that comes with it but i heard the align engine doesn't have these???? the OS will "knock its nuts off" unless all the shims are in it if my 4 OS's are anything to go with.

as for exhausts you will be wanting a hatori 939.

    cheers

No shims came with the engine, not sure if it has any in it or not, I hear it has one 0.02" (think thats right) shim in there out of the box.
I guess I'll pick some shims up this weekend then.

Hatori 939 Ok thanks for that will try to pick one of these up as well as the shims

With the OS SZ-H you need to add an additional thick head shim for 30% nitro. I'm not so sure about the Align HP version, I do know a fellow flyer is running his brand new Align HP on Optifuel 20% and it's smooth as silk, even running well rich. Give it a try on 30% and see how it goes.

Ok next query, needle settings for running in.

Manual states to not touch the midrange needle and to leave it at factory settings which should be 2 turns out, however my midrange needle is screwed all the way in, now do I leave it like that and just make sure the idle and hi speed needles are rich or should I wind it out?

            Wind it out.
It needs to be set to the settings in the manual for running in.

Thought so, but figured it'd be worth checking here first.
If the weather isn't too cold tomorrow I'm off to the club field for my first ever nitro heli flights.
              Should be an interesting experience

just one quick point, Im sure you have but did you check all the bolts particularly the head bolts on the engine, a guy at our club had a head come loose on the first couple of flights didn't do the engine much good.
                All the best
