  • Staters hex's n fuel

Which starter should i go for ?
I dont want cheap and cheerful and would rather have a semi fixed hex rather than a push in one (cone type is push in one i think)
what is the most popular fuel 5ltr thats is ?

For your 50 nitro, I suggest a Sullivan Hi-Tork (black and yellow one) - if you want to splash out on a good hex wand, look at the Robbe or K&S offerings

Not sure about 5 litre fuels - I think Model Technics do some and possibly the new fuels on the market like Optifuel and Rapicon.
    Cheers,

Apart from a slight hiccup with the built in one-way bearing I've been happy with the Robbe wand. This has a straight hex end which lasts much longer and wears the hex coupling less, I had problems with K & S wand with the ball drive end slipping in the couplings then couldn't buy replacement shafts. The downside to the Robbe wand is that it doesn't split down so you need a long space to fit the wand/starter assembly into for storage.

If I was buying again I'd probably go for the Sullivan wand. This has a barrel shaped fit so should last and the shaft is removable for storage.

If you can afford the Sullivan starter this is probably the way to go. I'm using the Robbe heavy duty starter (pretty much the same as the K & S, the important thing is that I'm using a 3700mah 4S lipo to power it. With this setup starting a 90 heli is a breeze.

Sullivan starter and Robbe wand for me, though I agree with SRH990, with hindsight I would go for the Sullivan wand as it breaks down. I intend to get the Sullivan battery holder and go cordless soon!

Steve, I didn't realise that the ball end created problems - it is certainly easier to remove the wand when starting.

Magnum 20% at the moment - just a noob really so no great power demand on the engine yet!

Hmmm... Perhaps I was just lucky when I bought my starter shaft as I don't understand all the fuss? I just bought the first one I saw from Inwoods (LHS for me)....

It does all I need it too...
A quick google and this is exactly the one I have.... (But mine is blue not purple! )
              http://www.centuryuk.com/Products/To...ories/item2450
              1. Can be firm mounted to starter as it is thredded to screw onto your starter directly, after removing plank hardware from the end and has 2x pinch hex-head bolts. (I've done this)
              2. Can be push fit into "plank" starter rubber.
              3. Contains a one-way bearing (pointless, but harmless for trex 600)
              4. Shaft just pulls out the one-way for easy storeage...
              5. Ball ended

The only down side is that the starter shaft has a little run-out, but it isn't a porblem one it's engaged into the starter "hex" on the heli....

              Cheers

Ive got the K & S on a sullivan running from a makita copy lipo works fantastic, or was working fantastic, having a problem with the one way bearing, it doesnt always lock when trying to start my 90, the 50's no problem at all.
                  All the best

                    !/QUOTE]

When the shaft has a ball-hex end the point of contact between the wand and hex coupling is very small, this causes wear both on the ball and the hex and eventually it spins up and you can't get the ball back out! The hex couplings on Trex's seem to be a little on the soft side and can wear quite quickly and once they slip it ruins the ball end of the wand. Because the Sullivan wand has a barrel shaped tip it has a much larger contact area so should last much longer and as the Robbe's tip is straight wear isn't a factor for a very long time.
