Hi everyone , i'm after your opinion i going to treat myself for my birthday (hopefully if missus dont find out first) to a trex 600 but unsure wether to go for nitro or electric ?

I had a nitro truck before and dont know if i can be bothered with all that tuning and fumes again ,But i do like the look when they are flying...

The reason i'm unsure about the electric is simply the cost of the batteries....

i know there will be pros and cons for both is there much difference in running costs

which do you prefer and why ?

    cheers in advance Dan

Tuning heli IC engines is no way near as sensitive as cars and trucks.

Once set (which doesn't take long anyway), most club fliers won't touch it again unless they change something like the plug or fuel.

i agree with Steve. i never have to retune my engine unless its really cold. I changed fuel to try Rapicon and didnt change it then either!

        Nitro, nitro, nitro.

Batteries at £200 a piece is just ridiculous in my opinion. I'm sure they fly great, but 5min flights/1hr charge means I'd want at least 4 packs, and I wouldn't dream of spending that sort of money on lipos.
Buy a gallon of nitro for £20 and you can have 10 - 15min flights all day long.
The Manager is right also about tuning heli engines. It's really not that big a deal.

If I recall your only down the road from me so if you need any help just ask

If cost is worrying you, go nitro.
Electric means buying all your fuel up-front.
Nitro, you can just go buy 1 gallon at a time from the local hobby shop.
Trex600 packs are in the region of £160 to £180 each - plus another £80 to £100 for a good charger to look after them and give them as long a life as possible.

Upside to electric is how clean they stay. Nitro heli's take a lot of cleaning
          Cheers,

I think go IC. Electric isn't quite there yet for the likes of 600 size IMHO.
IC isn't that messy if you keep on top of it.

Another thing to consider (as you improve) is:
With IC, the power is always there but the C of G changes during the flight.
With electric, the power drops off but the C of G remains constant.

Having said that, give it 5 or so years though and electric may be the ones to go for.
              Cheers, Lee.

The other disadvantage of electrics is that if you crash you risk taking out the lipo with it.
Go IC I think there is that extra thrill of the noise and smoke.
The Trex super pro combos are a good deal and include everything except the electrics at £475.

                    Yeh happy birthday for whenever.
                    On the ic V elec:
Have had both 600's, but the key is still own a nitro version, like said here many times due to costs.
Did have a 600E but had 2 batteries die on me and at 200 quid each, just couldn't take the pain anymore. Plus side is they fly really well, and if the batteries were cheeper i would still own it.

                        Are you working this saturday!!!
If not get an informed choice by coming to my local club and look at both electric & nitro helis. There's a good range of models too.

I could meet you just off M25/M20 junc.

I'm going anyway (weather permitting) so it doesn't matter if you do or don't.

                        Happy to help though.

I would also suggest Nitro, the Super Pro is a brilliant deal.

I have 600N`s and 600E`s and the electric ones are a bit of a burden really, expensive lipos needing lots of care and attention and short flight times with long recharge times.

Nitro is fill and fly apart from just topping up the receiver pack after a few flights.

I personally would not persue the 600E option any further and will ultimately phase them out in favour of the T Rex 500 which to me is a better all round package for electric.
