Guys, Tim had the right idea to start with. I wouldn't mess around with an expensive starter. Most of us already have a cordless drill or two knocking around, all you need is a starter extension shaft. I can still stop a Sullivan with my hand no problem. Can't do the same with my 18v Bosch.

This is assuming you don't need a starter with a one way bearing of course. Align and TT doesn't.

Nothing beats a cordless drill for starting power. There's too much turning power for a 90 so engaging the clutch on the drill is probably wise.

    Dewalt baby!

ive always used a drill for starting my nitro's . the rpm is a little less but ive never had a failed start exept for blown plugs or electrical problems with the remote glow.

Whatever works for you is best
I already owned a Dynatron, and the LiPo - all I had to do was solder up a means of connecting the two

Don't go using something so strong that it won't stop under loads of opposing force though as you can snap con rods. I'm sure you're all careful enough though!!

        Cheers,
        Rob

I fitted an OS 91SZH that had already been run in fitted to my Fury to my 700N so it was ready to rock from the off First flight needed a little cyclic trim and setting up the governor, certainly not as good as a Revlock 20, then off into loops, rolls, inverted flight & flips

Since then I've increased elevator swash mix a little as it wasn't quite balanced with aileron and 8 tanks have been run through - the down side is that this means a gallon of Wilcat CY 30% is no more

Starting wise I'm using a Robbe Heavy Duty 90 size starter with a 4S 3700 lipo, spinning it over isn't a problem, especially as I've got an OMI modified carb with Cline regulator and running on crankcase pressure, I have to spin the motor over a fair bit to pressurise the system to get fuel through the carb, flooding isn't an issue. As Rob says, its amazing how little the starter takes out of the battery pack.

My 90 can be a bit of a pig to start what i tend to do is prior to starting is take out the plug, fuel off, and turn it over until nothing blows out the hole, replace plug, apply the glow starter, fuel on, then turn over, this work's most of the time.... if it still refuse's to turn over loosen the plug slightly to reduce compression, once it's fired tighten the plug and away you go...............

Best of luck with your 700 mate
The trick with a .90 with compression locking is after the first start where you've loosened the plug. When you land close the throttle line and let it run dry and die. Rest the heli with the opposite leg of the landing gear on a small tool of something to stop any fuel residue getting back into the cylinder from the muffler.

                Worked for me every time.
                Cheers

I was doing this until not long ago when a certain top flyer told me this does the engine harm leaning it out with no lubrication Stuart.

Right or wrong I don't know..

I close the throttle line on mine to stop it, I wouldn't worry about it doing any damage. Ade pinches off the line too... A hydro-locked engine can also damage itself when you start it .

Enya 3's are my preferred plug. But OS 8's will work too but are slightly cooler... Either will be fine.

I'd rather run an Enya 3 myself......OS8 seems to not last long and they don't seem to run as well.

I'm glad you guys said this as I was going through OS 8's pretty regulary. Swapped to Enya 3's and been fine since. I only change them for peace of mind.

I clip the fuel line to cut my nitro engines too.

I use Enya 3 also - it's been my preferred plug for ages.
However, if you can't get them, or want an OS plug for whatever reason, the OS A3 plug is pretty much the same as the Enya 3.

                              Cheers,
