  • 600 NSP Setup

    Hi Everyone,

For peace of mind I would appreciate some feedback on the following setup:

TRex600 NSP with Hyper 50, Align pipe
    HiTec HS645MG's on the cyclic
    Futaba S3001 on Throttle
    Futaba 401 and S9254

The kit shipped with an Align RCE-G600 governor and RCE-B6T 2-in-1 reg.

The shop (Leeds Model Shop) recommended a Futaba R617FS RX (because it does some sort of cyclic timing (?) but this does not work with my Futaba FT6EX TR so looks like a Futaba FF7 2.4 TR is next on the shopping list.

I am not yet past the tail in hover stage so do not need a radical 3D setup, my intention is to go into scale flying eventually!

    Your comments gratefully received.

    Regards

    Shaun

    Hi shaun.e

That seems like a nice setup (I have an NSP also) and will last you well into sports flying. Whilst the gyro and servo is very capable for general sports flying, if you had any spare cash I would perhaps upgrade to either the Spartan 760, or a Solid G.

Same goes for the servos, they will serve you well up to sports flying, but you may want to look at Futaba 3152's as these are considered the best of the lower cost servos.

    Cheers

The 617FS receiver does actually work fine with the 6EX 2.4GHz transmitter, but you won't go far wrong getting an FF7/T7C 2.4 anyway, it's an awesome radio.

Sell the 6EX, or use it for sim usage (that's what I do). Until Ripmax recall all the 6EXs and replace them with sets that can't lose their GUID I wouldn't trust a big nitro heli on one anyway. The FF7 on the other hand has no such issues, so just add to basket

I agree with the 3152's but have to disagree with the Solid G. Get yourself a Spartan 760 as there bullet proof and easy to setup. I have one in my NSP and there brilliant. The Solid G for me was/and still is a pain. It was easy to setup with the G View but theres so many advanced settings its awkward. Im still messing with mine now on my Knight 3D. I just cant get it to feel the way i like. If any one wants one along with the G View pretty brand new really (had 4 flights on it) then please make me an offer

          Thanks DemonJim,

The 6EX is on its way back under the recall just issued. FF7 will be on order soon!

Thanks Russ, that's all I want ot achieve at this time - nice gentle flying and eventually plan to add a scale body.

The setup you have sounds good for the standard of flying you are at. You will always have people telling you to get the best you can afford as you may well progress into aero's and advanced 3d flying. But lets face it, if you only want to fly circuits and get into scale models then why waste money on high performace avionics where it's just not needed. Around 10 years ago i was flying around with a pretty cheaply setup Shuttle zts with std servos and an old piezo gyro (non AVCS) it flew really well and got me as far as inverted hovering, loops, rolls etc within a few months, only when it was pushed did it become much more of a handful to fly than todays high performance helicopters that seem to fly like their on rails. To see any benifits of expensive upgrades you really have to push your heli as far as you can go.
Stick with the setup you have now. Try flying some different Heli's on a simulator to push your comfort zone and decide what style of flying is really for you.
