  • Throttle and pitch curves - what are you running??

I know this must may be one of the most asked about subjects but I have been flying for about 8 months on my own without any outside help, completely self taught and no local clubs with free places, so...

I know how to set up the curves and what they do but just wondered what other people are using, I am more or less running the curves as in the manual with a few tweaks here and there, my set up is as follows-

    T-Rex 600 Nitro pro
    Os50 Hyper
    Align muffler
    Coolpower 20%
Revlock 10 (currently set at 1800 HS)
    Align 2 in 1 reg with 2000mah lipo (6v)
    GY401 with 9254
    Futaba 9452's on cyclic
    Spektrum DX7

    TIA

    Steve.
T-Rex 600 Nitro Pro ( now gone to live in Newark..!)
T-Rex 450 (very high possibility of one this year)
    DX7
    Phoenix flight sim

Proud owner of just the 1 EGS

Who said that learning to fly on your own was difficult???? They were right!

I have my normal flight mode set to

    1 0%
    2 40%
    3 80%
    4 90%
    5 100%

Idle 1 and 2 are set as follows

    1 100%
    2 90%
    3 80%
    4 90%
    5 100%

Pitch curves set up as straight line i.e.

    1 0%
    2 25%
    3 50%
    4 75%
    5 100%

This is how I setup all my models.

My curves diff from model to model as diff engines .... pitch curves straight line from middle stick up ... Below middle stick is where they differ ....my elec runs 100,80.70,80,100 and my nitros differ slightly 100,68,52,68,100 or there abouts for the rest of them ... pitch curves are normally ..

      Normal 30,40,50,75,100
      idle 1 20,30,50,75,100
      idle 2 0,25,50,75,100

Adrian, those throttle curves are way too high for a Hyper in a 600N - it'll be screaming like mad in the hover with a throttle of around 85% which you would have with that setup. It would blow the engine up, literally.

I'm guessing these are actually electric model throttle curves given the models in your signature? Nitro engines are very different from electric motors!

I found while my GV-1 sensor was faulty that you want throttle in the hover to be around 50% (or less even) to prevent massive overspeed - Mike W's values look more like a good starting point and adjust to your flying style.

I would agree with Jim where on my 450 and 500 im now running almost a flat 100% throttle curve on my ic's its alot lower dont know exact but closer to the 50% mark.

Trouble is with taking the settings off of a Tx it can only ever be a guide as different peoples setups of throttle position, head loading engine setup etc etc.

I have found usually the best way for me is to start at a 50% throttle curve then gradually wind it up to a level that suits my flying. from there working out the rest of the curve. to keep as steady a headspeed as I can.

this is obviously before I fit any governor.
          All the best
          Tony.

Sorry should have read the title heading.
Indeed all my throttle curves are for electric helis only.

Right not a trex but basically the same set up as you

              os 50 hyper align pipe
              ds 821, gy401 and 9254
              wildcat 30% curtis fuel
              align 2 in 1
throttle jockey set to 2200!!! try your rex at 2000 will sharpen up the response no end and make it feel locked in.

              normal
              pitch -10,-5,0,5,10
              throttle 0,35,50,70,85

              iu1
              pitch -10,-5,0-5-10
              throttle 100,80,60,80,100

              iu2
              pitch -14,-7,0,7,14
              throttle 100,90,76,90,100

              hold pitch same as iu2
