Mark, i did lean it out a click, but when adjusting keep an eye or finger shall i say on the base plate temp, if you can't hold your finger on it it is to lean, expecially since it is being run-in at the moment, but you have had a few flights now so you could start to lean it out more, just rememeber, when you start to use idle-up needs to all be checked again to make sure it is not running lean higher up the revs.
Be aware also that as the air temp rises, the engine will start to lean up again.
Best thing to do is at the start of a flying session, do the engine needle set-up, and it should then be ok unless the temp radically changes.

Nice one James... Think i will be flying in idle up soon as i feel it will give me a greater feeling of control, especially at height. It seemed good the other day when we were out but there was a lot of unburnt fuel dripping from the exhaust yesterday. Guess it trial and error to get it running sweet. I think i will run a couple more tanks richer to be safe before leaning it out a little

It's a good idea to make sure you have Throttle Hold set to idle the engine so that, if the worst should happen while flying in idleup, you can hit the hold to minimise powered damage.

        Cheers,

James has set it to that position for me for that reason. I just hope if all went wrong i'd have the reflexes to flick it at the time of emergency!!

Lets hope i just don't bin it!! i'm taking it steady but feel ready for faster circuits and the heli feels more in control with the higher head speed. It feels almost trapped at height with minimal negative pitch also which doesnt inspire confidence. I guess its a double edged sword!!

I think you will be fine to use the idle up function Mark, you have good control, just remember to tweek your trims to match that in your norm mode before you fly it.
And yes i did set up your throttle hold mode but it might need ground testing to make sure the engine doesn't cut out.

Just Learned the hard way about running too lean. Now have an os50 engine with a big hole in the piston, but on the bright side managed to land her without breaking any thing else. So new parts on order including a carb smart.
