  • Unburnt fuel?

Ran up my 600 today for some hovering (It's windy for me!) and noticed that a fair amount of fuel was dripping from the silencer.

this was reduced when i switched to idle up.

Does this mean i am running too rich or is this normal. The heli seems to be burning/using a fair amont of juice and i guess has had nearly a gallon through it since new last week.

I have leaned it off by 3 clicks after initial run in of 6 tanks.

Is this normal? want to burn the Magnum in anger not water the grass with it!!

Doesnt mean anything to me that mate really as it could have been set to anything in the box? How many turns out is the main needle and how how many degrees is the low end set at? If i remember correctly then optimal setting for the hyper main needle is one full turn out and about 1/8th from fully closed. Give or take a few clicks either direction for weather/temperature conditions. But all depends on engine condition and how its been ran previously really. There not all exactly the same.

Thanks Lee... i may need to have a closer look. Havent wanted to mess with the factory setting too much after initial run in, i have been happy that its not running too lean as the base plate remains cool and theres plenty of smoke. Worried if i mess with the needles i will throw the settings!

Just work it in slowly and youll find a spot that gives you reasonable power but without going too lean. Work it 2 - 3 clicks a time. Feel the backplate and you should be able to keep your finger on it for about 7 - 10 seconds before it starts to hurt. Just dont go too lean at this point thats all. If you mess up you can always go back to default settings... i think thats 1 and a half from closed for the main needle and the low end the cutout for the screw should be pointing about 35 degrees clockwise.

Yeh man just go easy and lean it in a touch at a time... even if you do 2 - 3 clicks per tank you'll find that sweet spot eventually and you'll be doing the engine a favour by not going lean so early.

I have found the ballpark settings on the Hyper on a 600N to be between one and a quarter to one and a half turns open on the main needle and setting the idle screw so its horizontal.

I found that on these settings Magnum 20 and 30 is good,my backplate temp is cool enough to allow finger to be kept on it and duration is approx 7 to 8 mins although unlike my electrics i dont exactly time the flights.

Thanks... i'm on Magnum 20 to start... i guess from you and Lee that i need to slowly lean off until it runs sweet whilst keeping the baseplate cool enough to keep my finger on.

I take it the fuel dripping from the exhaust meens i'm running very rich then guys?

yip that would be the safest way to do it and will give the engine even more time to bed in nicely. Just dont forget to check the backplate each time you go in.
