• Tail blade grip bolts!!!

    WARNING!!

Yesterday at the Midland Heli fly in my Rush threw a blade grip in flight causing the model to boom strike and completely destroy itself mid air. It has caused so much damage that it's looking like a Re-kit. I am absolutely gutted this has happened as the quality of the model in genuinely superb so can't understand why it has happened. Also being the weekend before AIR it couldn't have come at a worse time!!

Alees owners check your tails just incase because this one only had 30ish flights max.

***Not trying to slag the model off just a heads up.

    Not good Jack!!!

Did you manage to see what on the tail was the issue?? They are indeed top quality.

I have linked this on HF Jack as the support in the AleeS section is second to none.

Also, I have a Rush you can use in AIR if you need, I can get this to AIR with one of the lads who is camping. It is RTF top spec

      Jack,

Can you please tell me if the screws you used to hold the tail grips in place were 8mm or 6mm in length?

        Hi Ben,

Yeah the bolt snapped 2mm from the head of the screw.

Fortunately I have another machine with the exact same set up for when occurrences like this happen (admittedly I thought it would be trough pilot error lol).

That said I'd love to Kontronik my machines Mmmmmmm

          Jack,

I'm Scott from Team ALeeS. On the grip that wasn't thrown, can you move the grip in and out on the hub? If so, please check it to see if approximately 2mm are sticking out from the thrust bearing top and or/washer.

            Hi Scott,

The bolt I removed from the other blade still attached to the hub measured 6mm. There was also no in and out movement on the grip before it was removed.

            Cheers, Jack

First Jack, I'm so relieved nobody was hurt. Second, I'm sorry you had this happen to you and that damages were so extensive. It sounds to me like you got the right bolt on the grip because if you had the 8mm bolt (mine are 8mm--I have a pre-production kit) in the 6mm thread depth of the new tail hubs, you would be able to pull the grip back and forth on the hub shaft. It's something for everyone to watch out for; with this design, the grips have no in-out play. If you have in-out play, something is amiss and needs to be addressed.

I think this was just a very unfortunate accident, but please make certain you are using a brand name thread locker. We have seen the effects of bad thread locker on a team member's helicopter. That team member and other team members have taken to using Red very sparingly on critical bolts such as the tail assembly and boom supports.

If there is anything I can do to further help, please let me know. I will be checking in here for a few more days and will be glad to help you any way I can.

Hi Scott, good to see you over here as well as you guys prob have the best support for a Team on HF.

The AleeS is no where near as popular over here as in the US but your support is most welcome and will defo bring much more confidence in to the brand. We dont get many issues it would seem on the AleeS but good to know you will be about.

May I suggest a subscription to the AleeS forum

I've got to say, I'm impressed. A member lets everyone know of a concern from a bad landing, (very kind to let folk know) then the company behind the aircraft is represented by three reps!!
Now that is customer service! Might just have to try one of these out. Any advice on which one?

                        kind regards

As far as I know, they only make one model right now -a 90 size electric. Think there is going to be a stretched version available any day now and also seen some rumours of a nitro (which would be great!). Not seen a Rush in the flesh myself but does look like a superb heli and also seems to be very well supported by the company/reps.

It is a great model. Machining work is done to a high spec, the quality of material seems very good and the design is very well thought out. It has some very nice touches to it. It uses the long pushrods on the servos like the Trex 700 etc which typically Im not a huge fan off but it just works really well. It flies very nicely too.

Any issue or question I have had these guys from the States have jumped on very quickly hence why I linked to this thread for them to see so I could have piece of mind if this was a known or common occurrence and one thing for sure is you can trust what these guys say as they do not just say it cos they are reps and get stuff free or cheap

Disclaimer; not saying all or any others are but you can trust these!!
