  • Pheonix gone on the blink?!

I sat down last night to have 20mins on the laptop with pheonix, and it won't work at all and again tonight. It is not detecting my transmitter any more?!, all I have done is upgrade to the latest version from the online site. So I have got rid of that tonight in case of bugs etc, and re-installed the original 2.5, still no joy.
It isn't the usb ports on my laptop because it's picking both of them up, my tx is in ppm mode as its 35mhz still. When I plug the lead into the back of my tx it comes on, so everything seems fine until it comes to flying!!. SO my theory is my tx is dodgy now or the lead, any ideas?

    Hi,

Is there anyone near to you that you could borrow a lead from?

At least that would eliminate a problem with the lead.

    Cheers,
    Simon

Not that I know of , im going to ask my old man he has an ff9, I'll ask him to have a go of that to see if its something to do with the tx. It was very sudden which makes me think its goosed. And I have had it over a year now so warranty will be expired I would of thought.

I have had to completely remove pheonix from laptop and reinstal the disc. 1.5

When you get the updates there are two, I found the version 2.5 update would not work correctly and had too many issues.

I used the any version to 3.0 and everything is working perfectly.
Still getting the crappy online problems (and yes ports are open) though.

        Worth a try.

Im still really frustrated why the sim is not working?! I have tried another ff9 tx, so it isn't a tx problem, I have reinstalled the original version and it still won't detect the tx?!!. It detects the usb pheonix lead, so my usb are fine it just keeps stating reconnect or switch on tx, I have on and off several times. Any ideas? My ff9 is set to ppm so the radio freq is fine too.

            Maybe drop Pheonix an email.

Worse case you may have to send them your lead so they can test it?

Mines done exactly the same this evening, it was flashing Gear channel for a short while and now all it says is transmitter not detected by pheonix, tried a DX6i and a DX7, both the same problem, they are powering up when I plug in the Pheonix lead.

              Running Pheonix 3.0r

Did you resolve your problem with this at all?

Guys this sounds like the plug issue....

There is a stereo jack on the lead and there is a red and white inner core cables. The white isnt used but the red is conencted to the tip of the jack plug. There are two locations where the cable fails just outside the box and just as it enters teh jack plug.

                So how to test.

nudo the two screws on the dongle box and find the red core that comes from the jack plug (its likly to be covered in potting compound so persivere) then with a continuity tester gently pearce the insulation and test to the tip of the jack plug. if using a futaba 6 pin adaptor then plug it in acnd check it connects to one of the pins on the adaptor (they fall apart as well)

When you have found the fault... change the wire or plug that is causing you trouble..,.

Nope but im going to open up the box as xygax suggests, this sounds like a problem that has cropped up before?. Its frustrating because im missing out on alot of simtime and my flying is suffering hence my recent "in".

I have sent Pheonix an email, I think if I unscrew the box then any warranty may be void; If they are not helpful then I will try what has been suggested.

I got mine bought for me at xmas 2009 so my warranty is long expired, so anything to sort it now is a bonus

Phoenix will replace faulty leads for about £15, so if you are not confident about Steve's (xgax) procedure, that's another way forward for you.

Your TX will power up even if the usb is not connected to anything.
Send your lead of to pheonix and they will send you a new lead for £15 + delivery, start messing with it and you'll loose your warranty and have to buy the whole thing again.

Yes, they will replace a faulty lead regardless of age.
