Phoenix flying field

Does anybody know how I would go about building my own flying field on Phoenix? i.e. taking some photos of the field I fly in, and somehow save it as a flying field.

If you go to the phoenix website there is a "phoenix creator" download that you can build your own flying site in. (there is also a readme file. ) If your a little more computer savvy than me you may be ok but I found it complicated.

Its not very straightforward. Im going to do one for our field, but it involves a fair amount of image manipulation to get the 3d field.

There are a few guides online but im yet to find a good one...

The first step to take is to make a 360 degree panorama with a camera that lets you keep the exposure settings the same. This is crucial, or the joins look horrendous.... ask me how I know

Will write a quick guide once I actually have it done, but dont hold your breath...

I did the photography for the'UK heli club' field on phoenix.
I used a special pano tripod fitment with a standard slr camera to get the photos spot on.
I then sent them to phoenix and they stitched them and sorted out the obstacles. I let them know the dimensions of the field.

It's a lot more complicated than I thought then.
I will get my photographer friend on the case, then see if Phoenix can help out with the rest!

Photoshop will stitch panoramas and work out the exposure and vignette effects for you.

It wont easily do the 360 x 360 panorama cube that you need though

Photoshop sadly isn't up to the job. There is free software out there that can do it but I gave up and handed the pics to phoenix.
The thing people forget is that you have to pivot the camera up and down and side to side around the axis of the centre of the lens. Not around the centre of the tripod screw and certainly not around the centre of the tripod hub.
This is where panoramic hardware like the machine above comes into its own.

Making an equirectangular panoramic image and splitting it into cube faces is about 2% of the job. Turning it into a finished flying field using that ridiculous excuse for a piece of software is the hard part.

I have a flying site here that's about 90% finished but I'd rather stick red hot needles in my eyes than work with Phoenix creator again, so I doubt I'll ever finish it.
