  • Gyro Mode

    Hi guys,
Is anyone able to get this to work? It occured to me I've NEVER flown in Rate mode!
Trying to get this to work in Phoenix and it doesnt want to work.
I've mapped my Ch5 on my Tx to the Gyro Mode but flicking it off and on I dont see no difference?

Tx is a Futaba 8FG. Thanks in advances

Check channel 5 in the servo monitor on the 8FG, if you see no movement there then you still need to set the gyro switch or rate or make it active.

I've only just got it working as I've just found the edit menu for the tx. It switches between rate and hold ok. On my tx the gyro channel on simulator output is direct from the switch. I'm not sure what the gyro switching values are. Hopefully a small amount around 50%, but it might be much larger.

rate mode makes flying gracefully so easy

I'm aware of what rate/headlock modes are I just can't get it to work.
Channel 5 is my gear/gyro switch, Ch5 is GYRO in the Function menu on my Tx.
In BOTH Phoenix & my Tx, when i flick the switch Phoenix recognises it and the servo "moves" in the Tx.

I just couldn't see any difference in Phoenix flying about in the two modes which leaves me to beleive there was no difference! Maybe the difference between the two is very small?
Should I turn the gain in up in the Gyro setting on the Tx?

The difference is huge. Try flying sideways or backwards. In rate mode the tail follows the heli, just like a plank. It makes figure of eights easier to do.

in phoenix you have to edit the helicopter and one of the settings is the gyro.

you can select headhold , rate mode or flybarless

Thanks snoop, shall have a look at that when I get home tonight. So are you saying that the mode is not switchable on the fly per heli?

not as far as im aware. i always edited the model and selected what type of gyro it was.
                    theres no option for
RATE - headlock which to me suggests its not something switchable on the transmitter because its either rate or headlocking on the model setup

Is it switchable in flight on a model then in real life? I probably should know that but i've never flown rate mode so not sure. it would make perfect sense though if you could not change it during flight! Thanks mate

Yes, assuming you set it up that way.

You can also switch to different gain settings within HH or Rate mode if your radio is suitably capable.

i dont think you would want to switch it in flight :P
usually it depends where the gyro can is set to which mode the gyro arms in.
                          0-50 = headlock
                          51-100 = rate mode

btw arent you the guy from ocuk :P

How do you set it up then Mark? I have a Futaba 8FG Tx. Yes I'd like to swtich it in flight, after some reading I thought the norm was to hover in rate, and switch to HH after? Maybe not... Ha, yes I am.. and you are?

You have to edit the control settings under the profile for your transmitter. I'll do a screen shot if you want. You can then change it as you're flying. Rate mode tends to be used by scale people.
