of course, if I insist on using for example home-grown GUI code instead of standard components...
To be fair, lots of online games have appauling online GUI and connectivity problems.

For a game where the user hosts phoenix is much better than some.

To make it much better they need to be using a server to host the game, but then you have the expense of running the server.

maybe they should release an deticated server app, which will host only, loads of people have good internet lines. And you dont have to keep running phoenix all the time.

This would be a great addition.

We could probably all put 50p in a pot and rent a dedicated Heliaddicts server for a year.

there's been a huge amount of testing going on with the pre-beta testers (such as myself and Rob). Phoenix are making sure the beta is very good before putting it out to the general beta testing populous (ie. everybody).
From my perspective it's really getting there these last few days, multiplayer seems to be working nice now and the general models are all flying nice, physics seem all good.

I'm not privvy to the actual beta release date but looking at where we are with pre-beta I can't see it being a lot longer.

                          Yeah - install Windows first
                          LOL

Seriously though, I have no idea but I would suspect it's not high on their priority list.

I guess you probably know you can run it with Bootcamp but I've also heard of people running it using Parallels although apparently you have to turn off some of the advanced graphics options in order for it to run -haven't got it to work myself though.

Correct me if I am wrong but I don't believe Mac's support Directx which means that Runtime will have to completely recode the sim in OpenGL. This also means that every update will have to be coded twice which doesn't make sense (to me anyway) because Mac users have to run bootcamp to enjoy other PC applications anyway (Every Mac user I know has dual boot).
