All finished and ready for the maiden if the weather ever changes . I did spool it up and it went very light on its wheels at half throttle but i was only in an 8 foot square so couldn`t lift off . Or should i say dare not lift off . hopefully a bit of decent weather for the maiden . 005.jpg006.jpg007.jpg001.jpg002.jpg003.jpg004.jpg

Looks great, do you plan to take it FBL?

Keep a very close eye on the angled tail gears, RC Aerodyne have been testing some metal replacements due to a number of failures when driving 4 bladed tails.

Yes it will eventually go flybarless four blade rotor .To be honest i had not heard of any of the tail gears failing on the smart model raised tail . I had heard of the actual tail fail that you get with the aerodyne kit so i discarded that . Have you had one fail ?

Originally RC Aerodyne supplied a flex drive for the tail, but that was not that good, they replaced it with the geared solution and that one is not perfect either, if you have already swapped out the standard kit geared raised tail then you may well be OK, there have been a few reports on both the Seahawk and the Tiger kits of the standard tail gears failing, a few comments here for example:

No this is not the aerodyne standard raised tail . I payed over £100 for this upgrade to be on the safe side . Looking at the mechanics inside its all made from original torque drive gears and bearings so i was hoping it was going to be strong enough for the job .

I hope it does prove to be man enough for the 4 blade tail and there are certainly people out there not having problems.

I have a Tiger on my wish list, but I'm going to wait until they get the metal gears sorted I think.

Ok i just tried for a maiden hover in the back garden . Not really enough room in an eight foot square but we had a go and all was well . It hovered very nicely to my surprise . I did take some footage of the flight , six minute hover but all you can see are the nav lights as it was getting dark . got a bit of drift on the tail and its a bit tail heavy so will have to knock up a couple of lead pilots to even out the weight, lol , Will get some proper footage when i get time . cheers ......

                              Hi Baldy,
                              Model looks great.
I'm thinking of getting an RC Aerodyne kit.Could you tell me what the quality is like and the paint finish.I'm unsure if I should go the ready painted or unpainted route ( I can't paint for toffee btw).
Also, what battery set up are you using 6s etc ?
Thanks and I can't wait to see a vid of it flying.
