  • Canopy/fuselage contacts

I am planning to put lights into a T-Rex 600 size MD-500E fuselage.

I want to create a connector arrangement so that when the front canopy is put on (with strong magnets!) the connection for the front (nose) light and the underbody beacon/strobe is automatically made - and kept!

There needs to be three connections. I envisage something like a flat non-conductive plate with three flat connection points, in brass, on one side. On the other side three 'spring loaded', possibly leaf, contacts. A bit like (if anyone recalls) the connections to the tailgate on the original BMW 2002 Tourer.

If anyone has any ideas for suitable components (particuarly the sprung leaf part) it would be much appreciated.

how about a small slither of metal on the front strut connected to your batt or a seperate batt, then on your fuselage clip another strip of metal (spring loaded so it contacts the one on the strut. you can run the lights to the clip on your fuselage. just like a pressure plate, it only makes contact when the fuselage is fitted and will run of your on switch on your heli or you could use a spare switch on your tx if you have a spare slot on your rx.

Many thanks, soggybongo, for your quick reply. Very helpful. You mention 'strut', but the connections will effectively be between two 'flanges'; one which surrounds the inside face of the fuselage and the other similarly on the canopy. I presume you are actually talking about clipping contacts onto these flanges. The lights will be Tx operated via a Pico switch.
