I don't know a lot about Scale helis, and i'm just wondering whether they tend to be flown in Idle up, or in normal mode (but with a high head speed maybe) ??Cheers

Scale heli's flown in Idle up ??

Hi Sam, I have been to a few scale helicopter days and they usually only use the normal throttle setting and with a fairly low head speed to produce more realistic flights, plus I have yet to see a scale helicopter do an auto or fly properly inverted.

I may be shown the error of my ways, but personally I will be flying my scale heli in idle up once it's finished.
I don't see any reason why not to, a scale type start can be achieved within the ESC settings (depends on the ESC I grant you) and to me it's just a more natural way to fly now.Ridding the world of Helis, one crash at a time....

I fly all my scale models in normal mode - but I do have a throttle curve that brings the throttle on very quickly at first, and then levels off to hold constant rpm across the normal flight envelope.Pete
No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery.

on my scale heli's i use the idle ups 1,2,3 to give me a differing head speeds
most of the time i'm in normal flight mode
but if the wind increases i up the head speed by going into the next flight mode
if its to windy for my idle up 3 head speed then its time to fly pod and boomHirobo Turbulence D3

Yep both my scale helis fly in idle 1 and 2 flat throttle curve around 80% adjust pinion-maingear ratio to get the correct head speed for your model (number of blades), i always take off in normal and switch up in the hover, be sure the pitch and throttle are at the same place at the same time in the hover or it will jump! not good!!!!
cheers

Always fly in idle 1 or 2. If i fly my airwolf trex 450 on a too low a throttle curve then it will struggle when it needs a quick climb if for whatever reason i happen to get into trouble. I prefere idle up as you have more control to counter act turbulance. I have my airwolf fitted with a scorpion -8 & 13T pinion YEEEHAAAR!!! LOL. Actually since i put in my chuck 450 with that motor & GF frame it flies smoother than ever. Oh & i also fly it in HH not rate, yep proper scale flyer me but then Airwolf was a 'fantasy' helicopter so i can get away with it. Just need to remember where the gear switch is next time i fly it
Yes the big sigpic is coming back
