4 Blade tail rotor

Hi
I'm just starting a scale MD500 bulid using a Trex450 pro and a 5 blade head with Align 3G.
Will I need a four blade tail to counter the torque (and look better) and if so, does anyone know where I can get one in the UK?

You should not need to. I flew a 500 size A109 with a 4 blade head and stock tail blades. However, on my 600 size MD500, I was advised to put bigger tail blades on it when I fitted a 5 blade head. In this case I fitted 105mm tail blades which seemed to work.

Try it first and see how it goes. If you are not happy with the tail, fit 500 size blades first before considering the 4 blade tail hub.

Take a look on vario uk website for scale stuff but beware they are expensive but you have to pay for quality

Give this a go it looks wicked and its been reduced by about £65!!!!!! Its worth the try!!!

Sorry Keith - I misread your OP, thought it was T500 not MD500

You are going to struggle finding a tail for a 450 tbh, ive had a good search when I was thinking about it back in Jan.. your best bet is like Ant says.. chuck on longer tails if theres not enough authority

+1 for sportsmoto i have a DEAO x4 bld on my AH64 Apache, Quick also do tail rotor hubs

U should be able to use the normal tt drive tail gearbox, and just put the 3 blade tail hub and slider on the output shaft.

I would say it is very iportant to get the tail blade size correct so as to compensate the torque produced by the five blade head, this is what happens if you get it wrong! Touching cloth moment lol

Oh man - that was a nut-clenching moment!!
Thanks for sharing that - cool looking heli too.
My R50 slipped its belt after I dislodged a guide pulley - did something similar, thankfully without further damage.

Ok chaps - bit the bullet & ordered the 3 blade tail.
This is going to be the full-blown scale project now.
5 blade head + 3 blade tail
Scorpion 2221-12 + Commander 45A ESC
Align 3G

Question is......will it fly?
I'll let you know.
