  • Scale/Vintage Helicopter - Tail servo choices

    Folks,

Sort of vintage, sort of scale question really.

I've got a Kalt Cyclone that is in an Airwolf fuselage that I'm doing a restoration of.
Currently, I've decided to keep the 35Mhz radio gear in, which is the Sanwa RD6000 setup, with Sanwa servos.
It's got a vintage headlock gyro too (A.C.T Z Competition I think) and I'm thinking of getting a specific tail servo or something for it to try and improve the response.

Test flying the mechanics has shown the current servo just isn't really up to the job.

So what do people think I should do? Is there anything out there in that'd be better suited, but perhaps not an out-and-out digital servo capable of extreme speeds...

    Cheers

if it was mine i'd get a used 401 and a 9254 servo
providing that the tail control isn't via an unsuported snake

if you have a snake to the rudder either try and use a solid rod set up or
slide a stiff outer sleeve over the snake to support it and help with a more possitive tail control

i will assume you've got the rudder control as free as possible

      Thought someone might say that..
Currently the old snake method, but need to see what I can do to improve it, just not sure what yet.

Might see if I can get a 9254 then.

with the snake make 100% sure its free
and try and fit an out sleeve over the top of the original sleeve
tail control with a snake can be very poor
and heading hold gyros don't like them due to the delay in the rudder moving once a rudder comand has been given
if you want to see the worst tail wag you've ever seen fit a csm200 inside it

the Bell 400 with kalt mechanics that Joe bought off me had a csm180 rate gyro with a std servo on the tail
