  • Trex450 EC135 and Fan system

Just wondered if anyone has used the fan system from heliartist? as A freind has one and after many times of trying and many pilots inputs we have been unable to make it fly properly the fan just dosn't seem to spin fast enough.

I was told at the weekend that it is no longer availible which has been confermed by Heliartist themselfs but they did not give a reason

If anyone knows anything it would be a great help

Just had an email from heliartist saying it has been discontinued as it does not work well on 2 blade and not at all with a multi blade head this is the last comment in there email and I quote "Anyway thanks for your suggestion and we will try our best to improve our product design in future." obviously don't give S**t about there customers

Sorry bit late on the reply, been working away. I tried endlesly to get the HA fan working and many many mods later i reckon i had it cracked but the set screw retaining the hub let go and the fuse was smashed beyond repair. The vendor offfered a replacement fuse but disillusionment sent me down the MD500 route.

To make it work you need to do a couple of simple things

1, Gear up the tail, i used an old V1 trex 450 auto and tail drive gear coupled with a 14t pulley on the forward drive this gave a tail ratio around 6.5 if memory serves.
2, Get some 250 size tail blades and very carefully cut them down to 11mm wide and as long as you can get them to fill the cowl. The wide undercambered blades supplied stall very easily and are not up to the increased tail speed required.
3, and last find the fine line needed on pitch and throttle curves to give enough lift with minimal pitch. I found the pitch was far more of an issue than HS with the fan unit.

I had 3 reasonably successfull hovers with this setup with no tail blow outuntill the set screw finished the project off in dramatic style.

Good luck and i'll help where i can although the required parts for the way i did it are like hens teeth.
      Cheers Dan
