  • Source for small screws?

The tail cowling on the newly bought Long Ranger is held in place by three screws but only one was present when it arrived. So I need to find two more.

The screw spec is Phillips flanged self-tapping M2-0.8 (but 0.5) would actually be better.

The problem seems to be finding a source. Have already done quite a lot of Googling and the like but no luck yet. Model car suppliers seem to come closest.

Can anyone suggest a likely source for these screws please?

    Hi Nigel,
Have you tried nipping into Maplins as I get most of my nuts, bolts and screws from there

Try modelfixings. They are part of model bearings. Had pretty good service from them in the past.

'boltmeup' on ebay has a large range of s/s capscrews and stuff.and fats delivery. Too long isn't a problem..that's what dremels are for....

..and if you;ve never done it then shove a nut on first before you cut so that unscrewing the nut cleans the thread for you.

What sort of rivets?.. to make it look like it has rivets? Real rivets? Pop rivets? Or 'rivets' for eyes in belts and shoes?
Pop rivets are easy and fun.

rivets on the bodywork are reasonably easy but tedious. just dabs of polystyrene cement applied straight from the tube(try and make the pin hole in the tube as small as possible)
its also best to mark your panel lines first as if they are not in straight lines they look awful

Nigel can you re'pm your address. i cant find it

Thanks, Ron. I know that riveting is a long job but, would like to have a go at it. Also, as mentioned, the windows. Thanks again for your help. Cup of coffee for you at Charmouth - well if I am feeling generous it might be a burger!

Mick Reeves Models does strips of various scale rivets.

I've been reading about using brass tubing in a soldering iron pressed into a glassed surface to imitate rivets.

I like his dividing method to get an even spacing that looks credible without resorting to measured spacing.
This method could be used for smaller scale models using hypo need tubing.
