  • Head Speed

I have put a T-rex 500 into an Heliartist BO-105 with Aligns 3G FBL, it is flying well using SAB 470mm main blades, I try to fly in a scale manner with the odd roll and loop thrown in.

In this configuration I am using a head speed of 2200 with the hard (black) dampeners.

I have just fitted a 4 blade head and plane to test fly using Align 420D blades with T-rex 550 tail blades (85mm)
what I dont know is what head spped to use, I have set it up for 1700, 1800 and 1900, does this seem OK for starters.

    thanks for any imput

Any of those HS would work it's down to personal choice and the blades you use. Try the 1800rpm first then see how it feels, if it's a little frisky for what you want drop down to 1700 and if it feels sluggish up it to 1900.

It also depends on the pitch curves you have and cyclic throw, I'm doing a 500 size EC135 and currently getting the P&B setup right, using SM scale blades and a 1210kv Scorpy motor on 12T i'm looking at 1750 governed with max cyclic of 5 deg and 9 deg collective.

Still to decide on the pitch curve but found with 450 scaler that a reasonably steep initial curve flattening out near the top gave the best feel and has saved a few bumps when the wind was up.
