  • Is this too good to be true?

I was furtling around tinternet tonight and found this:

HobbyKing Online R/C Hobby Store : HobbyKing 450 5-Blade Rotor Head (PREORDER)

Seems a crazy price! Might be a spot of fun with an HK 450 clone and a cheap scale fuse though - for less than a 100quid.

    Thoughts?

    Wow, looks pretty cool.

Its £18.90 in UK money !!

I need to see some review first to be tempted in buying it.

Blimey - that's cheap! Like you say, at that price, you could build a really cheap but impressive scale 450!

      Cheers,

Probably but got to love this quote though

Further digging produced a 4 blade head at about $1 cheaper.

I'm going to order both for the hell of it, along with an HK 450 cheap as chips heli and see where we end up[1]. Now which scale fuse would look good d'ya think? I can't find a 450 MiL 24 or Puma. Apache and Hughes 500 are too common.

[1] Normally in a heap of glassfibre and carbon, and a weekly order for spares.

For the benefit of my education, lol, can someone tell me what the upside/downside of using head this would be?

Does it just help the appearance of a scale model heli (at the expense of more blades) or does it fly better? Does it still use a conventional flybar and paddles?

To me it just appears to be something that adds to the cost of crashing and would stifle performance by trying to spin up a load more mass.

            Thanks

The heads are all about scale appearance, you wouldn't fit one for any other reason so if you are not into scale then this is not for you

There is no flybar so you either need to learn to fly without or fit a stabilization device.

Quite a few people do fly without any artificial aids but remember that they are aiming for 'scale like' flight patterns so no 3D going on with these.

Just bumping this up: still waiting for the heads to be in stock!

The order for the clone has gone in though - total cost will be around 220 quid, and the only things I haven't sourced yet is an Rx and a fuselage, but they can wait (I'll nick the Rx off the T-rex in the short term! [1]). I'm going to give Hobbyking's flybarless a go as well.

This will either be a complete disaster or cheap fun, but whatever happens it's a laugh innit!

[1] I may one day admit to the stupidity that means I am able to consider this course, however that day is not close! Hopefully the spares will arrive soon....

if you get the 4 bladed head, it would look really nice in a bo105 body, if you get a 5 bladed look for an equirrel(think it spelt like that)
