  • getting into scale

    Hello everyone..,

I am currently learning the basics of cp helis with my Blade 400 and have now got her set up, tuned up and looking good. ( just need to learn to fly her properly, but thats the fun bit..!! )

It was always my intention to get a nice "scale" fuse for her as thats always been the side of RC helis that ive been drawn to. Indeed it was researching scale helis that got me into helis in the first place.

I have already started looking into some options, my question being.. Do i need to be looking for anything specific as in spec, weight ect..? are there any makes to steer clear of in terms of quality, availability of spares and finally with exception of the usual suspects, can anyone point me in the direction of any other suppliers of nice fuses that are a bit different as ive not managed to find much selection for 450 size as yet...?

As always any help / advise is greatly received

    thanks guys.

You might be better off with a slightly bigger heli, perhaps a full blown Trex 450 setup. Lots of fuselages available for it and parts are cheap as chips. Keep the Blade for learning on and scale up the 450 later (test hover and set the machine up before shoving in a body though).

When I converted my crashed blade with spare 450 parts I found that blade was slighty bigger as the 450 tail boom was around a inch and half to short but all other parts where almost a direct fit apart from the 450 main shaft being to small.

I would stay with the Blade and get a heliartist scale fuse as they fit the blade 400.

The main problem with all 450 size helis is that the fuse kills flight time if the fuse is heaby so look around but you could either upgrade the stock motor, stock esc or just get a better lipo that will give you more flight time.

You may also want to add around 6-7 degrees pitch in the tail rotor as with scale helis they use rate mode in flight and right now your using heading hold mode but wait until you are ready to go scale before doing all the above. Best to learn all the basic flying stuff and 3d then you may find in time that you end up with a Raptor 50 or trex 600 and then scale that.

        Hi Helipilot

I only recommend one website, they make stunningly good quality fuselages at reasonable prices.

450 Fiber Glass Scale Body : HeliArtist.com, We Deliver Quality.

        Have a look

          450 scale....

Thanks guys for your valued comments... I to have found alot of the trex 450 parts are nearly perfect for my blade, just as good or better quality and very often cheaper..?

Im at stage where my heli looks good in pod n boom form, ive added some carbon fibre bits and a nice 450pro cano but as lovely as it looks i do think a scale fuse is the way forward.... Possibly an MD500e if i can find a nice one. I like the one Gaui do but only seen it for the 200 /white front and black tail\ or a red stripped one on sports moto website. Granted if funds would allow a larger heli would be on my list then i would be spoilt for choice as there are a lot of beautiful fuses for the bigger birds as im sure you guys know.

Regarding the lipo, the chap at midland helis showed me the new Align lipo that gives you about twice the flight time of the stock eflite and a few quid cheeper just need to solder the connector on. Im currently getting about 12 mins from my stock lipo without pushing it but thats not 3d just hovering round the garden.... My plan would be to get a fuse over the summer so i can work on adding some detailing and any paint work then do the transplant later in the year once i have got plenty more flights under my belt and the winter arrives.
          Thanks again everyone....!

Just to give you and idea,, just sold the Augusta A109 with 3dx 450v2 mechanic's,
very nice flyer but tended to disappear at distance ,hence it had to go!!!
Did'nt really want to crash it,,,, The Hughes I still have and fitted with Blade 400 mechanics and full lighting system really looks the part, and with reduced movements and altered throttle curve, flys like a small scale heli should,,nice and smooth, unlike the blade which in original format can be a bit skittish,,,

            All the fuselages are Heliartist,,,

Where can u buy the heliartist fuses from. It seems like you have to be a dealer to buy from their website. Is there a Uk distributer?

What else do you have to modify / add to goto the multiple blade head?

hi guys i fitted the hughes 500 450 size fuse to my blade400 when i had it make sure you fit the esc under the auto gear to keep it cool also have to move the gyro down and made up some mounts for mechanics you can buy this fuse for around 60 to 70 quid and adjust it as needed and they are quite robust as mine has been in a couple of times and lost the rocket pods you have to make sure the stock gyro is up the same way i put it under the rear of the boom and it worked well just thought i,d stick my oar in
                          cheers j boy
