  • TX Setttings For Scale-ish Flight

I have a Trex450Sport inside an A109 fuselage. Radio kit is the DX7 and AR7000. Scorpion 2221/8 powering Align 335pro woodies with 3S 2250mAh batts.

Was wondering what sort of TX settings I might use for scale-ish flight? Stuff like EXPO, swash mix, T and P curves etc. Any advice gratefully appreciated.

In my limited experiance I would say set the heli up as normal and max out all settings then use dual rates to carm the cylic and keep the head speed as low as you can but sill maintaining good tail authority and no nose nodding.
Trouble with expo is it does'nt calm down the machine, what it actually does is make a massive step at say around 30% stick so if you get heavey handed the thing will shoot off like a missile, where as dual rates will leave the sticks nice and progressive but with limited thro.

I have a 430X & a 12T pinion on my Airwolf & i run at 90-100% flat throtle because wolfy is a fatty & i need the headspead high for the heli to fly smooth. If i go with a low HS like everyone says for scale then it flies awfull as when you give collective it bogs because of the weight. I've not tried DR but just added expo (30% on rudd) as i'm a thumb flier & i find my thumbs can give inputs with it linear. I set my wolf rex up so it'll fly 3D (not in the fuse of course like some i know.......'Gav') but then just fly slow & as scale like as i can. Some also choose to fly in rate so the tail follows the nose as that will make it more natural although personally i prefere HH & just learn to control the tail as scale as possible.
Yes the big sigpic is coming back

I'm running a flat rpm in IDLE 1 with normal P curve. Think I will play around with dual rates to get the best feel. I don't like that much expo because of the reasons stated, except maybe on rudder.

With scale keep them set with what your happy flying, for example mid or 3/4 stick hover etc, set up a good idle up1 throttle curve and pitch fly as pod and boom be happy with it 1st in pod boom format.

You can also add a couple of mixs to help with flying so it doesn't drop so much in a left turn. Also slow the tail piro rate down, you won't need it to be ultra fast.

Rather than run the ESC at 80% or so, I have just dropped from a 13 to a 12 teeth pinion, and am still running a flat throttle curve at 90%. Headspeed obviously down a bit. Roll and rudder rates I now have sorted, but it is still "jumpy" in pitch. Would more DR assist curing this?
