  • airwolf build with abit of a difference :)

hello all.. started on my scale airwolf 500 build a few days ago.. i decided to try doing something a little different to the standard colour scheme that everyone seems to do with the airwolf (too many about) lol here is some progress pics so far of my bird

trying to make a search light for the front at the moment.. will post some pics once i have done abit more progress.. also waiting on a medic sticker set to arrive and a few other detailing bits and peices

That is looking good and a lovely paint finish plus as you say quite a change from the normal colour scheme. Which kit is it? I had an Align one which had major issues with the retracts due to the silly design and which regularly collapsed if you attempted to taxi or landed with any forward motion or weight. After a number of paint scrapes I reworked the system on mine so that any forward movement forced the retracts to latch solidly.

Keep up the good work and looking forward to more pictures of your progress.

thanks Barry i believe it is the align airwolf although im not 100% as i brought it secondhand. it indeed has the standard retracts sill fitted.. and yes thay seem realy weak hence the reason i will be using skids.. im trying to find a slightly larger set for it to give it a more scale look.. i realy cant trust those standard retracts thay seem pretty weak and ive heard alot of people saying the same. and again i wanted to be abit different in regards to using skids aposed to the retracts with wheels.. again too many of the same out there. will post more pictures as i progress

Looking really nice & like the red.
Good that you've got your own ideas for it but I just wonder if the skids would be strong enough, may want to consider beefier skids and could look better with wheels.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

Yes im already looking for a set of larger skids as stated in my previous post. The wheels may look better to some people but like i said everyone has the retracts and wheel setup not many out there using skids.

That seems to be the nature of scale helicopter building, always finding extra work, always having to change your mind. Keep at it and keep posting. I am finding it fascinating, thank you.

LOL, I have been building (on and off) a Huey for a couple of years. Its a right handful as there are little to no instructions, its 600 size and its multiple parts and made of PetG and wood. Right now I spend 3 days deciding where to cut, then the next three days working out how to fix what I just sc****d up
