  • Apache lose tail

Second flight today and after the first flight with the tail very vague
I uped the gain and almost lose it,,
Bit scary, lots to do to get the flying properly

do you have a flat throttle curve?
    if not set one
is the tail drive a torque tube?
    a speedo type cable?
if torque tube what is the gear mesh like? have the gears started to strip?
is the motor pinion still tight?
    is it slipping under load?
is the tail control via a snake? if so is it perfectly free and smooth? if yes are you 400% sure
if you do have a snake it would be worth looking at fitting a sevro in the tail and use a direct link via a metal rod

Yes I've yet to setup the governor
it is torque tube, will check the mesh
the tail servo is on the tail with metal rod directly to the linkage.
      I will double check everything
      Thanks

I would double check the gears in the rear angle box

a few years ago I flew a lhc apache with a wire driven tail and the gears in the angle box stripped very often

Deffo looks like its a normal throttle curve issue where your rpm drops and the tail misbehaves.

No such issues with all the ones i have seen by using flat throttle curve.

The tail on these are solid shaft and strong large gears, think you'd have trouble stripping them,
Talking to people on the Roban forum and the main conclusion is the neo is not good for this heli and they defiantly need a flat throttle curve.
The curves no problem but changing the FBL unit means stripping out heli "again"
Apparently I need a unit that's good using rate mode not heading hold as they work to hard to keep the tail strait and when the max pitch is reached they tend to kick and reset.

Spot on Nick, I've reviewed a couple of clips and it does play up when the throttle is lowered,
I do normally fly all my helis with various idle ups but hadn't put one on this heli for test hovering.

Hi I have an apache and had a lot of problems to get the tail locked in. What FBL unit do you run I have a AR7200BX in mine and it took a while to get the correct settings on the Tail gyro, correct servo frequency, then played with the Tail Torque Precompensation.

I did all this as a pod and boom setup (as per Picture) until I got it sorted then fitted the body.

Hi I'm afraid the roban apache is a bit larger than a 500 and I did ask about setting it up as P/B but the shape of the innards makes this very difficult as you can see by the pic,
I do however have a 500 size UH60 Black Hawk which I will try as p/b first. Trying to get hold of a tail servo mounting bracket for that,, everywhere's sold out
                  Thanks

I've read alot of scale pilots like the Bavarian Demon. The 3X is cheaper that the 3sx if you dont require rescue. There was a 2nd hand one in the for sale a while back

Yes it would be difficult to fly it as a pod and boom.
What FBL unit are you using ?

We have had the same problem with a friend of mines on his Roban Apache.
He was using a silverline v bar and we just could not get the tail to hold on it.
We also run a flat throttle curve on it.
We have now fitted a Spartan vortex vx1n to it and hey presto all the problems went away.Very strange but very happy to get it sorted for him.
So another flybarless unit could sort your problem.
Very odd I know because v bar are normally very good as are many other units.

Hope this helps in some way for you.
