  • Scale help needed please folks

    Hi all

At the moment i have the align 450l dominator and i cant decide if to build that into a scale helicopter or i am realy fancying a guai x4 or the older hurricaine to build into a scale heli

Most of the 450 size fuselages are designed for the older Trex 450 models (e.g. Sport, se). I expect that the dominator won't be a straight fit so we need some work to get it in there. The Hughes 500 is probably the most adaptable of the 450 size fuselages as the is plenty of room in there and the longer tail can be just allowed to stick further out of the back.

    Goblin 500 - Spartan VX1e, eFlite 550H, BLS153, Xpert SI2201, HW100
    Hughes 300 - HK450
    AS350 - Blade 500X
    BO-105 - TRex 500 Dominator
    Bell 222 - Stretched Gaui X5 mechanics
    Jetranger - Stretched X50e mechanics
    Airwolf - Roban 800

The older 450 SE V2 with the belt driven tail usually fits into the scale fuselages you get for 450 size. Plenty of spares available still.

        MSH Protos 500 FBL. VX1e, Zeal 480
Trex 150. In one piece and flying well........for now!!

I'd stick with Align as most of the GRP fuselages are designed for them (Heliartist, Funkey, Roban). That's not to say other makes won't work, just that you'll have to do more mods to get them to fit. All the Align models are well supported for spares. My Bell 222 has Gaui X5 mechanics but that required extensive rebuilding of the mounting, extending the tail and cutting of the Fuselage to give clearance around the swash.

In 450 size, sport and se models often come up for sale second hand on eBay. Or you could get a HK450 from Hobbyking which is a se clone, and is actually pretty good with all Ali head and tail (I have one in a Hughes 300C fuselage).

The Trex 500e (belt drive) will be the best fit in most 500 fuselages and can still be bought new.

The 450 sport, se and 500e are all flybarred as standard but can obviously be converted to FBL if preferred.
