  • R22 Rise from the grave

I have inherited an big old scale R22 heli.

On inspection the airframe is a Kalt but i'm not sure which model. It came with 690 wooden blades.
Maybe be a baron 60 but the collective tray is unusual.

I want to identify what it is and whether its worth trying to get to fly again.
The fuse is in good condition and can easily be sorted, just the rear cowling missing...
So here are a few pics for you clever people to help identify the model...

This is going to be a winter project. The head all seems to be there and with a considerable amount of tlc should be ok.
There is no engine so will need some help to find what is missing regarding the clutch stack and a suitable power source.

Maybe I could just keep the fuse and transplant over a newer model...That said I do like a challenge so would be great to see this fly again in its former glory :-)

It does look like a Baron. I haven't seen that kind of collective yoke before but it's a K5 rotorhead and the rest looks like a Baron. I still have some Kalt bits that I need to do something with including a pretty much complete GS Alpha gasser and a Baron 60 main frame with engine and a Kalt 'blackhead' all metal rotorhead.

they do look like baron 60 mechanics
i'd get in contact with joe at vrhc and he will be able to photo a set of baron 60 mechanics from a bell 400 he has
the engine will face rear wards, and either belt or rear cane start, the fuel tank sits under the servo tray

if the model was mine i would go electric with it as the kalt clutch wasn't the strongest and failed often

this is the bell 400 that joe has

Wow that does look like a challenge, shades.

Please let us know how you get on with it. If it were mine I should be inclined to convert it to electric and flybarless. I don't have that sort of technical ability so I will watch with interest what you do. Good luck.
