Hi I am building a hind with a 3 bladed tail , the question is do I use normal 600 blades or should I use 500 blades. I have tried 600 blades as I had 3 and the tail seems very powerfull.
Thanks CJS
i would start with the correct size for the mechanics
if the tail is over powered of looks plain daft with the size of blade then try a smaller set
if the tail doesn't hold with the smaller blades then increase the size as needed
the other option with the smaller blade would be to increse the cord width of the blades
remember an overpowerful tail is better than an underpowered tail

I am currently testing the mechanics for my 600 size Alouette III. Stock Trex600e with the TF 3 blade head and 550mm blades. I am running a 3 blade tail and had to cut the blades down to avoid hitting the horizontal stab. Just measured them at 90mm from bolthole to tip. Using an AR7200BX and the gyro gain is set at 65%. Tail was holding fine in a 10kph crosswind.
I am also using a 3 blade tail on my Quest Impaction E720 F3C model. The blades are Rail 95mm. Plenty of authority.
Put some landing gear on the mechanics last night and spooled it up into the hover, apart from a slight osilation on the head which i think is because of not enough head speed it hovered ok. Tried to upload a video but cant seem to be able to.

You need more gain for lower headspeeds generally, but be careful, more than 18 degrees of tail pitch when the tail is static will stall a tail blade. I think we often forget how massively overpowered our tails are for 3D
Ok tail is ok . So put the fuesalage on to just see how it all handles before i spend a lot of time finishing it, seem to be getting a bit of vibration of which the body is increasing causing the 3g unit to vibrate , . Does anybody know how to stop this happening.
Thanks CJS
Was there any vibration when you flew it pod and boom? Some fuselages resonate at particular headspeeds. Also a minor vibration when in P&B can be amplified in a body.
