  • Five bladed head for t rex 700e sportsmoto version

    Hi all,
I,m looking at a 5 bladed head from Sportsmoto.co.uk. I was wandering if there are other heads to compare and if anyone is using one from Sportsmoto or any where else.
Are there things to be aware of when selecting the right head. My aim is to build a MD500e and have got a skookham 540 unit.
Many thanks for your info in advance.

I had the misfortune of watching one of those a three bladed model all but destroy its self last weekend damn close to destroying the heli on close inspection the fixed ball link had so much slop nearly fell to pieces

I can personal vouch for the TFM head as I have a 4 blade on my Apache mechanics and it is nicely built and easy to set up

I've had issues with the TFM... but that was the 600 version. The hub was a bit thin and bent out of true somehow - until that happened it was a very nice head... perhaps the 700 is a bit more beefy.

the TFM is a much better match for the md500 style though anyway and overall quality was great, just a shame it tweaked out of true.

Money no object, PSG Dynamics make some extremely high quality heads. On the other end of the spectrum you could use one of the roban scale model heads - they are plastic grip but seem to work very well...

I have had quite a few flights on the mechanics and so far no problems every thing seems to be staying true. It is the 600 head I am using and found the quality good

I wanted this head so that I could place the dome above as attached photo's

                Noice...

How heavy is your heli? Mine was pushing about 7kg.... I was a bit disappointed to see it come off centre though

not sure about the weight, will weigh it once all together. with all things to consider, might re think and get a roban super scale?

Where did the head fail ? my Apache is at 5.2 Kg but still have missiles and rocket tubes to go on and some small bits

it didn't fail, but one moment it was smooth and the next moment i had a vibe. checked and the hub was no longer spinning true and had a wobble that shook the whole helicopter.

Tried new main shafts to no avail, only solution was a new head.

I test flew the mechanics last weekend plenty of power and stacks of lift, I am at the final stages of fitting the mechanics into the fuse for a test flight this weekend

                            you have me worried

I spoke to the research and development guy at kontronics they are sill a few months away from releasing the 80 Hv Jive with soft spool up, up to 60 seconds which will take the initial load of the head

did you ever put the head on a lathe to see where it went out of entre

                              No I didn't...

Could have been a freak occurrence. I wouldn't worry too much about it - at worst if it happens you'll just notice the heli picks up a vibration.
