    hi all

i thought i update my project i started march this year

    $(KGrHqZ,!iQE1N!QGQkVBNhO3!sEjQ~~_12.JPG

i got this heli like in picture for £40 off flebay. since march it pretty much sat in bits in storage while i spent the good weather with pod and booms. i now started restoring this massive thing.

    IMG_0357.jpg

try not looking at messy back ground lol not long moved into new house then

i just basily installed new tail boom and striped the nasty paint and primed nothing special

so atm it costed roughly £30 in parts i got another £100-120 to go on body parts without detailing

i keep updating as i do more

    small update

i got new fibreglass tail fin set i had to basicly stick togeather to get the classic R22 tail "plus" fin problem is fibreglass kits from century isn't the best had alot of filling sanding priming then repeat to do i still did more fillering after i took this picture as i wasn't happy

    tail fin
    DSC_1442.jpg

this fairing came with the helicopter when i got it was in a right mess multi layered paint not bit of smooth area on it.at the bottom of the upright was cracked and holes so again fill sand prime and again i still did more after picture was taken.now i got the main body i had to fill in the fixing holes and drill new ones and then bond small bits of wood for screws to have somthing to bite into.

    top fairing
    DSC_1446.jpg

while doing final rebuild (if there such a thing) of the gubings i noticed the century swashplate was very stiff and hard to move on closer inpection it looks like the preious owner used brasso or the like to polish it ! as the was creamy toothpaste like stuff between the upper and lower sections

    century swashplate
    DSC_1441.jpg

after reseach i found out only way i get new swashplate from century was via USA imported by me .in end after help from this forum and comfured by midlands helicopters i got this quickUK a upgrade for a Hirobo Sceadu.just had to swap two ball joints over on inner section that the swash out arms connect too and its a perfect replacment.

    qiuckuk swashplate
    DSC_1458.jpg

so i now got most of this heli built apart from im awaiting the clutch system to be in stock at centuryuk then it time to start thinking about all the servos etc. i not picked any yet but was thinking of MKS DS1210 for all but tail.engine is a thunder tiger h50 came with heli i put new ring in it and gasket set all round but for peace of mind i might buy brand new .50 engine maybe redline.

          well here another small update.

ive been busy basicly with detailing on body work, first im doing the rivoting using a kit from red lodge helicopters all i done in the picture took roughly 2 hrs its very quick and easy this my first time using the kit so it not my best work.

          DSC_1495.jpg

im using pictures of the full size heli as ref of where rivots are then spacing them as they look best on model. ive not finished the main cabin there more to do plus few for other details to add and cut out for nav lights

          DSC_1500.jpg

same with this tail fin used ref pictures not put all rivots in yet as i got put a rearwards facing white nav light and housing then add rivots to the light housing

          DSC_1504.jpg
the tail boom is again done same as above but is finished apart from red srobe light but i can't do this untill a navlight set im waiting for turns up

                          major update

so its almost done looks like im on my target of summer this year for first flight

                          319871_10150935951694619_526472642_n.jpg
as you can see from picture i finally picked a bright color called "ford eletric orange" from the ford focus ST. i basicly tryed painting my self but had a reaction with clear coat on main cabin and had to basicly take everything off to fibre glass and start again with primer and rivots i also in the end took the model to thame accenit repair centre and payed for them to color and clear the model and got to say its well worth the money.
                          523985_10150935949504619_537429618_12937507_1932119225_n.jpg526166_10150935949709619_537429618_12937510_1454368101_n.jpg
all the writing's etc are made by me on pc using coral photo shop i then printed them onto inkjet water transfure paper (clear) then sprayed with a clear coat to seal in the ink. then you use them as normal water trans u get with hobby kits models. i used two types of paper white and clear as a injet printer can not print white i used the white for the "danger" arrows (not yet pictured)

                          535306_10150935949994619_537429618_12937513_1556376720_n.jpg535816_10150935951159619_537429618_12937525_407262690_n.jpg556198_10150935950954619_537429618_12937523_574853106_n.jpg
again these i made in same way as the marble flights co. i took to the internet and went on one of many font sites to find right styles i needed to match to full size. it was then just a matter of printing to plain paper diffent sizes untill i got right scale then printed onto water trans paper. i think it turned out very well if you ask me

                          559958_10150935952059619_537429618_12937532_297824730_n.jpg
here shot from my phone in a short bit of sun we rarely getting the shine i still can't get over it lol
                          562138_10150935950734619_537429618_12937521_931618049_n.jpg
here the tail with black on sliver lines. unlike many model helicopters this tail is on the "correct" side of the aircraft im not sure with this picture but i might just be able to spot the tail LED (more pictures etc on lights soon)

                          563022_10150935950509619_537429618_12937518_1056574936_n.jpg
this as you can see is the boom beacon its 10mm red led thats wired up to a home made controller for lights im still thinking of changing it for a shop item but atm that a low priortiy
                          575742_10150935950319619_537429618_12937515_1603288107_n.jpg
well the "tail number" is as u can see this is a vaild unused tail number (i checked lmao)last used in 1982 on a cessla light aircraft. also for the smart ones of us out there u might of guessed my wife called ruth so to sweeten the cost of the helicopter i "named" it or "registered" it in her name.

now for the machanic's i was going to keep this as flybar but after buy two flybars and two flybar cages and both of them breaking on install both times(~£20 a time) i had enough and changed the helicopter to flybarless i using a align 3G the standard head was easy to convert i swap the 5mm ball-links to 9mm's from swash arms of the flybar setup kept standard pitch links (they long ! 160mm) and used a align 600 swash driver set. so cost of going flybarless was roughly £80 . i am using spinblades 600mm semi's ,so with them and fbl this model should fly well.

engine is a OS50 with a thunder tiger exhaust (room was a big problem for exhaust) running with align 2 in 1 for plug power and flight power, also the engine is hooked to specy's TM1000 with temp and RPM sensors.

well that do for time being next to come will be pictures of finished decals and pictures and write up on the lighting i put in the helicopter.

                          thanks all

                          Gavin

                            Final update of finished item.

helicopter took little bit long i thought because of numberous reasions biggist being paint going wrong and finding a painter to paint took over month in total just to find a painter.

but in end it was worth it with paint going wrong i had to dissovle all old paint off with thinners making sure fibreglass didnt react lucky it didn't so i basicly endded up back to body that was only finished ready for priming. so i primed and rubbed body again but good thing was i had to do all rivits again (good u say ?) well yeah because i was now better at doing it and did a 100% better job .witch after paint made the work all worth it.

                            first flight.

well yeah first flight couldn't of gone worse !

basicly to made model flybarless i had to retro fit it into flybarless. its was simple as other century users have done it unfortually i couldn't get same parts in uk or usa in fact so i basicly had to trial and error it settled on a 600 swash driver set but unfortually because of hosing they was too big only way for them to fit turns out makes them jam in flight !. so end of first flight ? was two smashed brand new blades (£60 ea) bent main shaft (10mm shaft !!) and missing yep missing swashdrivers. luckly i only just started to go forwards out of a very low hover (6-12 inches) so rest of heli was fine.so back to work bench (one good note i did test without body).in the end i found the fix by mixing old and new i used the 600 swash driver collar with century's flybar swash arms i cut the upper part of arms off forming a short stumpy swash driver set after some limit sets and bench tuning i was ready for first flight number 2. unfortually i had to cut flight short was wind was getting higher than i wanted for first flight also a note first time flying anything bigger than my 550.

                            Final build.

thankfully nothing much needed doing to body for final build just a few tweaks for scale lights as i changed the system. i now got working landing lights ! powers by a led each in a spot lens then leds came with light unit but lens i found online was a perfect fit both looks wise and scale

both lights are on at lower than 50% throttle this makes auto landing and take off lights as by time i above 50% i would of just be into top end of a hover and other way round they come on just as i start to hover for a landing.

this video is a quick look at the whole system with out the cable tidying lol.

all that was left once cables was fixed out of danger and everything was put in place like the front "glass" was final transfures

i coudn't find any "danger" decals to fix the helicopter so i made my own

final touch was the logo it was a bit faded due to wrong type of paper so i removed and redid

so here the finished helicopter after 14months of work roughly

i hope you all like the model i sure do
