  • Century twinstar and Large Longranger

    Hello,
Been collecting a couple more Century scale helis ,first is a twinstar with an OS 37 using hawk 46 pro mechanics with a cut down tail boom to fit in the body and the other one is a Predator with OS 70 and a Longranger body.At the moment the twinstar is being fitted with a cheap Turnigy 500 motor and 6 s A123 cells as removing the front for battery changes is a 5 min job.The Longranger is also going to be converted hopefully using a budget motor<when i can find one to suit>.I have flown both and Iam really pleased so far,
    cheers Euan.

Those look very nice. I am hoping to get a 450 size Jet Ranger project going soon. 'Not terribly ambitious I know but I have to keep in mind how I'm going to transport it to the field, so the practical size is limited.

Well, what I'd Reeeeeally like to do is a BO 105 with a 4 blade rotor, but at the moment I have not yet looked into the multi-blade heads and what would be involved. The nice thing about the Jet Ranger or a Huey is that the full scale heli has a 2 blade rotor. The Jet Ranger also has the advantage of not having an elevated tail rotor, so it's one of the simplest to adapt mechanics to.

I think four bladed heads are quite involved having spoke to a few people about them.
Ill just stick to the basics at the moment, i like scale but its a pain when you have to strip them down to do maintenance....ive just changed the engine and renewed a clutch linner in one of mine tonight but it flys ok so i must of done somthing right

Well the answer there is something like a Bell 47G, Allouette, Llama or Schweitzer 300 etc.

I had a big Hirobo Bell 47G but it was just too big for me to move around.

                century Twinstar etc

For me its got to be the Jet ranger and Longranger ,i have a Ranger in 450 size right up to a Vario turbine and still think its the best looking heli around. The Ec135 is a close second but the dreaded fenestron tail adds too much of a challenge when it comes to flying. The Twinstar/Squirrell, is growing on me but still not a ranger,
                cheers Euan.

                  Trillian,
Real shame you had to sell the 47G as they are a great model to fly.I looked at a build thread on another forum that a chap had done a super scale job with his 450 size Ranger<puts mine to shame> had rivets and opening doors etc.If you fancy a larger ranger project drop me a pm,
Adrian half the fun is this hobby is maintenance and tinkering isn,t it????
                  cheers Euan.

Yeah the 47G was very impressive but just a bit too big and heavy to be practical at the moment. I could probably manage something up to 50 size but I'd go electric with a Jet Ranger rather than nitro and then would have to invest in some bigger Lipos etc.

I can transport 90 size pod and boom helis because they are not as fragile as a scale bird.

                          century Longranger

Just returned from doing some proper flying with my new longranger, after changing the fuel to Irvine contest 10% and a few tweeks on all needles it flies very well .Next job change the blades from the woodies to some NHP,s as the auto is a little weak ,
                          cheers Euan.
