Making your own canopies...

The plan was to repair a canopy I have so it was 'useable' again, and leave it. I have now ended digging out all the cracked paint and cleaning up the torn areas so that I could fill them with resin.













After sanding down the resin (which I found was ridiculously hard) it has now been primed and flattened back ready for top coat.

I have actually quite enjoyed doing it tbh, and have seen a few people have made their own canopies. Is it difficult to do? Where would I start?

Also what colour for the top coat do you think for the canopy above?

Nope, im the most un-artistic person you could imagine

Couple of rattle cans and a roll of masking tape is what im looking for

theres quite a lot you can do with cans!!
Can get simple fad's, shaded Water droplets

Just use very simple hand masks. cut with a knife.
Some of what you see about you can do. But not high art airbrush, what ever way i look at it could never do that.

So what colour, it will be on the heli in the top pic

thats just masking tape fold in half. Use 1/2" not in picture which is 2".
Way it works is the flappy edge will fill with air from can but not blow up because air will hold it down. So you'll get a soft edge. Just don't be to heavy with paint

siliver base overcoated with red. after applying silver let it dry then spray water on it so you even coat of beaded water then spray red. Carefull not to knock canopy. when dry wipe off water. you'll have silver pattern. You could mask off panel do them different colours.

or base black then mask out some panels get 3 or 4 colours and tooth brush! Dip end of brush and flick it at panels you masked. change colours and build effect up.

i would do it a nice bright set of colours so it stands ut in the sky.

Other week i f@k up lee's ely Q sceen. Thought it was molded black plastic but turn out painted black! DOH
Couldn't leave it clear had gone cloudy from solvent..all i had was black and silver in a can

Crikey...we should just have swapped, I just done all that to my basic white one, to paint it Metallic Blue like yours......
