  • Bashed Up Canopy

    Hi All,

I've been given a fibreglass canopy for my Logo 500 and it's been in a heavy front end bump at some stage in it's life. It's been repairedvery well and is probably stronger than ever but it's a bit untidy.

I'm toying with sanding it back a bit to try to smooth it out and repainting it but was wondering if it's really worth doing or does the sanding process cause problems?

    Any thoughts?

Can't see why you couldn't scuff sand it and spray it again. Only one way to find out I reckon Andy...

        I repair my FG canopys
i use fibreglass mat and resign on the inside.
once its set, flat it back on the out side with some fine sand paper to remove the high spots ect.
then apply a nice heavy coat of high build primer.
sand the primer with fine grade wet and dry.
re apply another coat of primer over the area again.
another gentle flating down with fine wet and dry.
        job done ready to paint.

if doing a repair like this, i allways
cut about a 1 inch square of mat and lay it over the canopy grommet hole.
this makes that area strong and gives a nice area for you to pull on to remove the canopy from the heli with out the fear of dammageing it.

one of my canopys has had 4 repair jobs now and it still looks as good as new.

must admit to have being very lazy recently, with the price of canopys and the quality of them I do tend to just replace them if they get too taty.

Although I dont mind fling with a canopy with a few battle scars on it

strengthening the holes is a good idea usually a very weak place
            All the best

This is almost a must on mikado canopys there made of egg shell and cost an arm and a leg.
