  • How to make the paint shiny?

I would like to paint a couple of small parts on my heli, part of the carbon vertical tail fin and the boom supports.

I want them to match part of my canopy.

I was going to use Neon Orange and I would like the finish to be nice and shiny just like the canopy. BUT I am not sure how to do this.

    Any advice?

That's the art of painting, you have to put it on thick enough to give it a gloss but not so thick it runs. It helps if you heat the parts up a bit with a hair dryer or something, that way you can get more paint on without drips. Paint them in a well lit area so you can see the light reflected in the paint and build it up till it looks glossy. Then repeat with clear laquer if you want even more of a shine.

in a nutshell, lots of warmth & paint.

ok , the best way is to use a clearcote or lacquer as its called, the best stuff is 2K , that means it contains a catalyst as a hardener, this is POISONOUS and must be uses with an appropriate mask and outside .
Its also fuel proof , great if you fly a nitro ;-)

You can get it in an aerosol from your local car paint supplier, but it has a very short shelf life once used.
you could use a 1K clearcote , from say halfords , but its very poor quality but better than nothing.

jUST REMEMBER WHEN YOU PAINT LESS is MORE, START WITH A COUPLE OF LIGHT DUST COTES , then a heavier coat , with around ten mins separation between application.
      good luck and enjoy
      :-)

oh a very good neon paint to use is plasticote , top stuff and doesn't fade too much.

I should add neon or fluorescents are matt so you will have to clearcote to get a shine, also de grease the parts and scuff them up with a scotchbrite pad before you paint :-)

when you have painted them you can use an automotive polish to bring the shine out a lot too.

you can also rub each coat of paint with 2400 wet & dry including the clear coat do this to all the coats including your last top coat then use T-cut to get a real high shine
