awesome footage! when they point the laser at the target from the ground and is seen through night vision is the laser seen without night vision?

Erm No! it would give away your position if it did.

When i served we mainly used the Mk1 eyeball and a grid ref, to call in fast air, heli strike or artillery and would correct by sight and coms, that mean't getting prety close, not good place to be if you were using US air! now i belive its still MK1 eyeball + electronic targeting. can't tell you more OSA! if you realy want to know join up! and at the moment you would very likely get to put it to the test.
            cheers

The old ways haven't changed much, still grid ref's & radio comms for fire missions, the use of a laser target designator is used to illuminate a target quickly and acurately long enough for observing aircrafts infra-red targeting systems to get a lock-on, get everyone looking on target quickly and the right target, less chance of error. Whilst infra-red light is unseen by the human naked eye and can be used in daylight too, if your enemy has IR equipment they will also be able to see your laser designator trace it back to your position and target you too ! Shoot & skoot sharpish would be a wise option.
