  • Blast from the past!

    Pete

No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery.

That was before i was born!, had to be a model engineer in those days rather than a hobbyist like today, also much harder to fly i bet!? I started on a kalt space baron with a futaba 154 gyro....if you can call it that, thats worlds apart from what i fly today, the evolution or the hobby has been massive in a positive way but maybe lost some of its art along the way?
    cheers Lee

Ha, I was 29 then. A lot of those lads are about the same age as I am. I wonder if they are still flying.

Not a HH gyro in sight! plenty of semi-symmetrical wooden blades with obscene dihedral too! I suspect (and I include myself in this!) that a fair few folks who consider themselves to be competent flyers would not be able to fly those sorts of models at all!

more like not a gyro in sight
having owned and flown vintage models i know how hard they are compared to todays heli's
the biggest improvement is in the radio
an oldie will fly reasonable well with modern radio gear
the oldest model i've got now is a hiem star ranger, it's not young by any means
but it does fly very well even with the g154 gyro

I must have missed it as well. Accidentally arrived in 1376 and it was dreadful! ('my time machine was acting up, I'm really from the future)

I've had kittens. Superb. I thought I actually saw a version on my first Tx! And not an electric in sight wahay. Now that sort of stuff is way more interesting to watch than 3D aerobatics and the scale was to die for.

Trouble is, that is how most of the plank flyers in our area think helis fly now. They were old back then so it's hard to change their minds....!

I still have the skyleader gear. It's very frightening, where as all the balsa gone.
