  • 500 throttle curves.

Hi looking for some throttle curves for my new 500 heli ,its fitted with an align 70a esc and a 500 typhoon 1800kv motor,at the moment have
0 50 64.5 80 100, have seen another example 0 60 85 85 85 would this better as have read that the 500 size heli needs a good head speed.
    thanks.

Yes, the 500 (when I had one) required a half decent headspeed for sport, and a good dollop for 3D.

I prefered (ungoverned) flat throttle curves, ie, 90, 90, 90, 90, idle1 and 100, 100, 100, 100, 100 idle2. Had normal mode programmed in but never used it, instead I would have had throttle hold on then flicked into idle1 or 2, flicked out of throttle hold and relied on the ESC soft start to gently ramp up the power.... if you are going to use this method ensure soft start is enabled in the ESC!! Landing was either a mini auto or land and flick into throttle hold.

What pinion are you using, and that would be 6S i would presume?

.... and to answer your original question. The second throttle curve you posted would be better for nomal mode IMO - less change of throttle should make it more predicatble.

      500 throttle curves.

If the head speed is too low you'll notice a slight oscillation (slow frequency tail wag). I upped the throttle curve until the oscillation disappeared. I also prefer to fly with a flat curve (like your 0 60 85 85 85) as it avoids the need to contend with altering torque reaction as the collective is raised and lowered.

Thanks for your advice am planning on using 5s 3000 lipos and have got 13 t pinion fitted ,as I am not into any 3d flying at the moment and will not be using idle up for a while have seen others using 5s packs to calm this motor
        Down a bit .

I'd think either curve would be OK. But the 2nd with the higher head speed would probably suit the 500 best, as in in normal flying 85% is more than enough for sports type flying & the 500 loves a high head speed or it turns into a nodding donkey.
BTW if its a FBL head your running, higher head speeds are the only way to go or it will wobble & nod at the same time.

Yeah, that setup should be fine, but I would still recommend the second set of throttle curves as you have a flat section, which will mean that the throttle stays constant in the portion you will be flying with, which in turn means you will only be controlling blade pitch. Give it a go, you can tweak the curves to suit.

Reason I asked if you were on 6s was that that typhoon motor is of quite high Kv for a typical 6s setup, but as you are running 5s on a 13T pinion all should be good.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi guys just to let you know finally got my 500 in the air after a few issues with the tail not holding with my quark gyro changed the tail to align as this started
out as a hkcmt and most of it has been changed to align. anyway flys really have throttle curves now at 0.85.85.85.85 which makes the heli very stable and have changed
my pitch curves from flying at 5 degrees mid stick to 0 degrees mid stick with a pitch curve of 0.25.50.75.100. which is a bit of a change as i have been flying 5 degrees
mid stick for a while which will set me up for when i move on to using idel up.
              cheers again
