  • Noisy TREX500

I posted up a while ago about a tail rotor servo issue I thought I had, but was waiting to cure a noise I wasn't happy about.

Well, a MCP-X got in the way of that, flew, crashed, flew, crashed broke studs from skids into main frame, new mainframe time, flew, crashed, broke studs in mainframe, upgrade mainframe this time

Then Winter, then garage got messy, but bit the bullet and cleared the garage out, built a nice new workstation to use out of a bit of laminated chipboard so it's white and clean and little bits aren't going to fall off the sides, and dug out the 500 to start looking at the main shaft.

I looked for a video to see how it was removed, and found this one.

He's got a vibration which he can't solve, but the noise is pretty much the same as mine, are they normally this noisy? as if it's normal I don't have to worry about it being 1 second from self-destruct and can put it back together and give it a fly.

I've got to be determined, since I've got a TREX250 kit which I've promised myself is going to stay in the box until I get the 500 up and in the air

Yeah id say rotor head block by the looks of things. Your head should spin dead straight, that would definitely be causing the vibrations.

The first thing I would think about is the main shaft being slightly bent. In the video he says the shaft is straight but it can be difficult to tell sometimes. It does look straight judging from the bit you can see below the rotorhead.

If the shaft is straight and the head is wobbling then it may be able to teeter slightly due to the hole the shaft goes into becoming slightly elongated (I cannot imagine the actual head being bent because surely the force needed to bend it would bend the main shaft first).

Regarding the noise, yeah that sounds fairly normal, it's mostly gear noise.

Mine isn't vibrating like the video, it's just the noise I was concerned about
