Hi guys,
Some thoughts if you would be so kind!
I and still learning and at about 30-40 feet slowing to a hover, a fuel problem shut the engine down........
Well I can vouch for the value of Phoenix Simulation, as I practice autorotations, and I "saved" the day at the last few feet, but had a fairly heavy landing with the "clack" of a boom strike, evidenced on inspection on the tailboom.
I changed the tank fuel line which was the cause of the problem (split just beyond the nipple, so I could see 1/3 fuel in the tank but the hopper was emptying which I did not notice!) and today went for a flight.
On throttle up.... you know it just did not seem right, at about 2/3 head speed got a fair bit of vibration, then some tail wagging, and the sound was different, almost resonant compared to usual. I hovered a bit but the vibration was there as was the really twitchy tail.
Older and wiser as I is, I landed and shut down and had another much longer and harder critical view. The only thing was that the feathering spindle appeared to have a bit of play in it, maybe as much as 2mm if you grabbed the blade holder and wagged, I have the grey softer dampeners in currently......
Our club expert (and totally brilliant nice guy Dave) had a look for me and we thought best to look at the feathering spindle first and then maybe the main shaft.
I am going to do this him being the expert etc, but just wondered if anyone else may have some thoughts?
Cheers,
Gaz
