Trex 450 pinion

How high should the pinion be against the main gear cog... should the drive pinion be level with the top of the main gear or is 50% engagement enough?

thanks for any advice...cant see anything about it in the manual.

you want the pinion slightly above the main gear (few mm) for best mesh as the gear tends to have float up and down and also normally not exactly flat either. also pay attention to the gear mesh, too tight will hinder performance and ruin the gear. you should have a tiny tiny bit of back lash in the gear. what i use is a thin piece of paper and use this as a space between the gears. not normal printing papaer, thats a little thick. something like cig paper for eg.
