  • Mode 1 and second hand esc

The heli I bought was flown by some one who flies mode 2 and I fly mode 1. Will my tx settings be different from those on a mode 2 tx? And will I have to reprogramme the esc for mode 1?

    Hi,

I don't think it will make a difference as long as the channel outputs are the same.

    Cheers,

As you will be moving the throttle from the left stick to the right stick I would advise that you re-calibrate the TX to the ESC just in case of any differences between the two. It shouldn't make a difference in theory but that is theory and not practice.

Both myself and the previous owner fly on a DX6i. How would I recalibrate it? I have a tower pro esc and the appropriate programming card.

Find the instructions for the ESC and follow them. On all ESCs I have had this has been the procedure:

Set a linear curve on the throttle channel.

Turn on the TX and put the throttle stick to full throttle.

Power up the RX/ESC usually by connecting a flight pack. Hear the motor make some musical notes.

Move TX stick to full close.

          Power off RX/ESC.

Thanks folk, so basically, seeing as it has already been flying, everything should be mechanically set up. So if I set up the Tx up to the settings in the ccpm sticky at the top of this page, and recalibrate the esc and Tx, I shouldn't be far off it being flyable?

Edit - and make sure the servos are centred.

Yep, sounds like it, I guess this helicopter is flybarred (not flybarless)?

Most important is to make sure your swash is level mid pitch and at the extremes of collective pitch and that your servos all move in the correct direction.

I assume that means mid pitch means mid throttle stick? Sorry for sounding dim, but I want to get this right!

The "throttle stick" controls both the collective and throttle output but I normally call it the collective stick.

To make sure you are outputting middle collective (0 pitch) you want to check the pitch curve to make sure it outputs 50% at mid stick.

If you are using a non linear pitch curve you just want to make sure your swash is level throughout the collective travel - I should have just said that in my first post.
